I don't think you can say it's better or worse, because it is free, so you should get what a free one has to offer you, and for the case of avg it's good enough.

In any case try going to avg's site at grisoft.com or you could try avast anti-virus,though i know it has a much more limited time, but nonetheless try it.

AVG is crap ware. So far i agree with most of the posters here. If you want protection that works you need a paid version of Avira or Kaspersky. Personally, I like Kaspersky the best. If your computer is clean it will stay clean with Kaspersky. I have had it now for two years. 2 virus free years. I can say that with Avast or AVG. Get rid of AVG while your ahead. If you keep it it's only a matter of time before your hopelessly infected with Trojan mal ware. You can get a virus anywhere on the net. Some places are worse than others. You need something that works. Not some little kiddie AV.

Norton, Mcafee, AVG, Spy-bot are all over priced garbage that mess up your PC. The best thing to do is get Ad-aware Personal from Lavasoft, its 100% free with updates all the time. Also doesn't hurt to have windows Defender.

Well, you can download a free 30/60/90 day trial Anti-virus software from some providers at http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/update/wi... . If you use Windows XP, don't care about the 'Windows Vista Security Software Providers'. It's still compatible with Windows XP.

If you have internet connected to the computer you can easily search the web for it.... try typing "Free AVG" in the search box... I'm sorry I can not determine which anti virus is better. Just make sure its updated.

I use Panda. If you want to try some of their tools for free go to http://www.infectedornot.com/ That web site is part of their new campaign "Infected Or Not?".

There you can try their new products (Panda NanoScan and Panda TotalScan) for free and, in exchange, they collect statistics that are presented in the campaign's website to raise awareness on the malware infection problem.

You should try them, they have more virus definitions than anybody else and they detect all kinds of malware (viruses, trojans, worms, adware, spyware, hacking tools, etc.)
