What type of gun should I buy next?

I am interested in buying a new gun at a gun show I am attending in a couple weeks. I am mainly interested in a pistol, but may consider a semi-auto rifle. Some guns of interest are .357 or .44 mag revolver, 9mm semi-auto (cheap to shoot), 1911 style .45ACP , 7.62 or .223 semi-auto rifle. I want to spend $400 or less and am willing to buy used.

What should I buy to round out my collection? I have the following:

-Glock model 23 (.40S&W-also have .357Sig barrel to shoot it too)

-Jennings 9mm (piece of crap)

-three .22 rifles (including Ruger 10/22)

-Marlin 336 (.30/30 lever action)

-Mosin-Nagant (7.62x54R)

-Mossberg Maverick pump shotgun (12 gauge)

-New England Firearms (.410 single shot)

I am considering a 9mm since they are so cheap to shoot, but would like to add a revolver as well. A 1911 is cool, but probably not in my price range. I am leaning toward higher capacity guns that may be banned again soon!

Advice from experienced collectors and shooters is helpful.

No collection is complete without a 1911A. Granted they usually will be over $400. Though if you are looking for high capacity, just pick up a 25 round clip for your Glock. They were $29 on www.cheapasdirt.com, but for some reason that link is not working right now. They also have a 40rd clip for your Glock. It looks extremely stupid with a big drum on the bottom of your Glock and it would be hard to hold, but you could fire until your hands hurt! You might get a Bersa Thunder 380 auto. They run about $180-240 and are close to the Walther PPK, but without the expense. A 44-mag revolver is also a classic addition, but again I am not sure you could get a good one for under $400. You could always save up for one of the models that the gun control nuts are trying to get banned, like an AK or AR-15. You can get a brand new Bushmaster AR-15 for around $850. AKs are a lot cheaper. Have fun with it and I am sure you will not be disappointed with whatever you choose as long as you stay away from 25 cals.

The Walther PPK/S is a great choice for your needs. Also the Smith & Wesson M&P Compact (9mm or 40) would also be a really good defense pistol. It has great ergonomics, its easy to use (similar to a Glock), reliable, and practical in cost. I have a hard time thinking about shotguns for home protection simply because the barrel length can make it difficult to navigate narrow hallways and corners safely, unless it has an adjustable stock and a shorter barrel, but then its not as practical for shooting clay or hunting. Your best bet would probably be a Benelli Nova Pump, unless you want a semi-auto, which then the M2 would work but the cost is high. Id stay away from the Berettas, dont get me wrong I like them (I used to carry a 96) but their heavier and there are cheaper and more simplistic guns out there that will do the job. Who doesn't want a Mini-14?! If you can afford one its a great choice, but not so much for home defense (based on barrel length again) unless you have some unwanted animals in your yard...same goes for the CX4. In summary, you want something you can take to the range and protect yourself I'd go for a pistol, hunting/clay and protection its a shotgun all the way. I just dont see a rifle being all that practical unless you hunt or spend alot of time target shooting, and even then a .22 would probably be more cost efficient. Hope this helps.

Smith and Wesson 686 357 magnum revolver. I like a six inch barrel. I bought mine used from a police officer for $300 he wanted a glock 40 cal. like yours. The 686 had a great trigger and shot very well. You can shoot 38 special wadcutters out of it which are cheaper to shoot. 357 158 grain rounds are also really good self defense rounds (thats what I've read anyway). Im not a collector though and I don't know what they usually go for. I traded it for a deer rifle and regret it to this day.

I'd be thinking of a S&W Model 66 in .357 Cal. S&W recently discontinued that model in favor of a newer one, but you should be able to find a 66 in good used condition. You'd have an excellent .357, and yet could fire the less expensive .38 Spl ammo for practice.

Below is a link to a page that shows one that was up for auction so you can get some close up views. Hope this helps.

Why not get a wheel gun? You've got a couple semi's already, any decent collection should have at least one wheel gun. I'd personally recommend the Ruger SP101 .357magnum. I won't suggest a barrel length simply because you more than anyone else will know which length is more suitable for what you intend on doing with the pistol. As I'm sure you already know, the .357 will safely shoot 38special ammo, making it economical to "plink" with, and using the 357magnum loads making it a powerful defensive/hunting backup firearm.

You can get a 1911 for $400, especially used. Sure, it won't be the fancy super turbo model, but it'll be a 1911 :)

I like the XD-45 pretty well, you can probably find one used in your pricerange.

I'm pretty partial to .45 ACP myself... when it comes to revolvers, I've always been partial to the bigger guns such as the Ruger .44's and the S&W's. Try poking around on some online websites- you can find some pretty good deals there as well as getting a general price range for guns you may be looking for. Good luck!

I'd look for a sweet 9mm as your thinking about or a solid .38/.357. This would be a great addition to your collection.

Id go with the 357 or the .223, just because they are both fun guns to shoot. the .223 is one of the cheapest bullets to shoot(besides the .22 of course).

with HR1022 in the house's hopper and dems in power you may want to opt for a semi-auto SKS, AK, AR, Mini14,

I recently picked up another black rifle, with mags and ammo.

Buy em cheap, bury em deep.
