Before we go any further....?

Can we PLEASE get it straight now as to what qualifies as behavior for grounds for ejection? We all know what happened to Big Timmy in San Antonio for laughing on the sidelines. So should we be surprised that Baron Davis got tossed out for clapping? What if someone sighs too heavy or stands with their hands on their hips for too long? Or what if someone were to roll their eyes? This is the PLAYOFFS!! These teams have worked their ***** off getting to this point. Is it not expected that emotions will be running high? Is this something the refs need to take into consideration while after calling the 1st technical foul, to turn their attention back to the game instead of the reaction of the player called for the foul? There's still a whole lot of basketball left and I want to watch the guys play with all their hearts. Please refs, I beg you, this is not the time to be calling those "ticky-tack" fouls. Just let the players and fans enjoy the playoffs as much as we possibly can.

I've reffed games before. Every game is tough to call. The Warriors/Mavericks series is especially tough to call since it's such a fast game. I see many missed calls, but I understand the calls from where the ref is standing.

While whining and complaining isn't to be taken lightly, it is the playoffs, and the refs have to have a little thicker skin. Most of them have, but some haven't. I think if they realize they make a questionable call, they should be giving some extra slack to the players, especially in a close game.

But yes, if the focus shifts to complaining, the refs have to call something to get control of the game again. Otherwise something worse like fights may happen, and the league doesn't want that. I think the penalties to Davis and Jackson were excessive, but both players are emotional and need to be kept focused. Both deserved one tech, but maybe not the second.

There is a lot of grey area for respect and other things about the game that could get you ejected. But I think more slack could be given on borderline calls by the refs.

I agree with you, in saying they do need to take some things into consideration! Its the simple fact that the player disrespecting the ref led to it. He wasnt clapping for it being a good call, it was all out of sacrasm. Now should one be tossed for this? Well no! I do not think so! That one instance did not lead to the ejection! It was the prior run ins. When you step on toes but stick around you must be careful, at that point the ref is waiting for a reason to toss you! Davis may not have deserved it as much as Stephen Jackson did! He ran his mouth for about 2 qtrs. The ref is in charge thats is duty to control the game. Its the discretion of the ref and thats the bottom line. Take the foul and walk away. Its a simple as that! A bad call usually gets made up during the course of the game anyhow, thats how it usually goes! But again I agree, its the playoffs, but you have to know the limits. Its not the first time they encountered this ref, they know his style, what he will and will not accept, and its the duty of the players to walk that line. He excessivly clapped in a manner the ref did not like, granted I dont know if thats totally just, I am not the ref. But you know he was warned, not only by the ref but Nellie as well. so listen up and play the game! This happens every year anyways and its getting annoying to even hear about! Blame blame, the refs do not take the shots, they do not get out-rebounded, they do not turn the ball over 23 times, the players do! Good question tho!

Your making excuses now shorty. have you ever reffed a game , or played competitively? I have and if you don't get control of the game you will have to hear players bitching and moaning over every call. And emotions running high is a cop out these are grown men in their late 20's early 30's self control is something you are supposed to learn on your way to becoming a man. Even in church leagues or Gus mackers you have to comport your self with dignity. And when was the last time you ever saw a ref change a foul call? Never so get over it and keep playing.

Baron had good reason to be pissed because the ref's where incredibly one sided in the third quarter

And Stephen Jackson should not have gotten that tech all he did was reach in he had nothing to do with the scuffle after wards

baron should have already been tossed out earlyer he was telling the ref his calls were B.S. a ton of times.he made first contact with the mavs so he should already have been tossed. and the clapping thing he steped right in front of the ref and started clapping.

I agree that was a stupid tech. Baron was facing his teammates and clapping, not mocking the ref.

Kudos... couldn't have said it any better... Let the players and their skills and plays on the court decide these games.
