Which University of California school would be best for me??
Some info....
I am currently a junior at a private Christian prep school in Riverside, CA. I have a 4.0 GPA and take honors and AP classes. I am involved with lots of things on campus and enjoy doing our community service requirement (I know, I'm weird)....I would like to major in art history with a minor in languages. I would prefer to go to a school near/in a bigger city (i'm definitely not a country girl) and money is not an issue. I'm just stuck as to which UC school would be best for me...I've visited all the websites, but they can only help to a certain point. Any advice....(ie: which school has the best art history program, etc...) would be great... Thanks

Hey, I suggest this...
Visit them all, if possible. Or, at least talk to the professors and students somehow. Visiting the websites is a start, but it's also important to get some opinions, ideally from the professrs themselves.
Secondly, I can tell you from personal experience that UC Berkeley is in what you might call a "bigger city"; it's near Oakland and San Francisco as well. I've taken two art history classes thus far at Berkeley, and they have been pretty good, two of my favorite classes, actually.
Finally, when you apply, it may be a good idea to apply undeclared. Gives you a better chance of getting in. I was rejected from UCLA, and I believe that one of the reasons was that I did not apply undeclared.
Be sure to write a stunning personal statement!
May God bless you.
(Edit: Regarding the answerer directly above me: Actually, that's not true. I personally know people who have gotten into Berkeley with much less than a 4.0 (i.e. 3.4-3.5, etc.). The popular image of students with 4.5s and such making it in isn't representative of reality. But if you were joking, then forget I wrote anything.)

For one, its all the same application, so with your stats i would apply to the TOP 4 UCs...
UCLA
UCB
UCD
UCSD
(giver or take on UCD-- you can substitute another UC if your prefer it more)
Now, second question is what kind of college experience are you looking for.
UCLA is very college oriented, college bubble like (i go there)... in my opinion its the cookie cutter college life-expereince place. It is still a top university and you wil face a lot of competition, but less in your particular field (your not pemed so nothing cut throat will be happening) Also UCLA has an amazing campus.
Berkley is a bit more prestigious and has more of a world appeal. Its definatley more known across the world, but in California, the two schools are pretty much equal, so where do you want to end up post graduation?
Berkley campus is ugly, i visited it recently when going to SF. Nothing compares to the surronding of UCLA.
However, SF is still SF and LA does not compare to SF...... which city do you like more? (even though berkley is not exactly in SF)
You will spend most of your time on campus , if you live on campus, and in the surronding area, what are you looking for in a college, how social do you want the school to be.
LA is more social than Berkley. But i am not saying berkley is not social.
UCLA and UCB should be top of your list, in the end yous hould base your decision not solely on academics because your comparing one excellent education to another, consdier other factors when making a choice between these two schoools, but definatley apply to both, because you NEVER know how admissions will go, often times a 4.0 will get rejected.
Good luck
Please note Freshmen are not accepted by Major to UCLA in the College of L&S. They are accepted into the college, so your choice of major is irrelavnt.
UCLA considers soci-economic status and family responsibilty, work more than Berkley, and often times because of this the admission standards of each school vary and various people get into one and not the other.

UCR. Reason being that UCR is an excellent school for the major you are inquiring about. It has a reputation as a teacher preparation school (if you want to do that or not) but you want to try and go to a school that focuses that much detail on the subjects. If you went to UCLA its more of a science school, not vey popular with teaching. UCSD-is ok from what I have heard.
But I will warn you this about one thing that is typical in UC schools. The professors (or system I should say) are more focused on doing research which is their number one priority usually. They have their grad students teach their classes and another thing that is a bit annoying is that professors have the tendancy to have poor office hours or make time for you. Which is one of the reasons I left the UC and went to the CSU (its actually common to leave a UC school). I wasn't exactly being taught anything.
Good luck to you.

UCLA has one of the top Art History programs and is located in a major city. The only other UC located in a major city is Berkeley that is literally next door to San Francisco. It wouldn't hurt to get a Berkeley degree. In small cities, I have personal knowledge that Davis has a top program (graduated from there but not with art history).

I went to UCSD....its not an artsy or history type of school. Try Santa Barbara as your grades aren't good enough for Berkeley.
