congratulations on poor planning! you are not supposed to wear socks or shoes for two full weeks when you get a tattoo on your foot. aftercare is something that you should have thought of BEFORE you got your tattoo. not afterward. because of this your tattoo will likely turn out looking less than fantastic and won't hold up well over time.

this is the way you SHOULD take care of a new foot tattoo:

*don't wear any socks or shoes for two weeks, nothing that will physically touch the tattoo

*keep it elevated as much as possible for the first three or so days to avoid swelling

*wash the tattoo about 5 times a day and pat it dry then apply whatever moisturizer the artist told you to use.

*leave it alone. don't scratch it or pick at it or mess with it in any way. just let it heal.

it should take the full two weeks to heal, sometimes longer because the foot is so far away from the heart it doesn't get the same circulation that the rest of your body does.

The tattoo artist will give you all the info you need to know to take care of your new tattoo. With a foot tattoo, it's a little trickier though; you have to make sure you don't wear any shoes that will rub on it - so basically you might be stuck wearing flip-flops for at least a few days. When I had mine done, I had to wear flip-flops for about a week (healing/swelling would not allow any other footwear). Also, while it's healing you shouldn't do anything that will move your foot around too much (running, dancing, etc). You will also have to make sure that once it's healed and you want to show it off that you are wearing sunblock.

Please, please, PLEASE don't cover it up with a sock! You need to let the air at it, even with the bandage. I had an ex-friend who had a gorgeous piece done on the entire top of her foot she refused to take her sock off for the first week afterwards to allow it healing time. It was ruined for some reason. The ink had blurred and almost smudged throughout her skin.

I'm no expert although I have a couple myself. I'm just telling you what I've seen. I'd still love to get one on my foot though too. Good luck!

If the tat is new keep it moist and covered . Wash it a few times while at work. If it gets infected we may have to remove your foot.
