Ok. I am a dark skined black girl and although I always get told i am pretty, i am still always made fun of for being dark. Why do most boys prefer light skined girls? I mean the only difference is a darker shade of skin.

I think dark skin is stunning! I'm not just saying that. I am very pale, and don't intend on going to an unhealthy tanning booth anytime soon. That said, I love darker skin. I think we are born with what we are born with. I had commented on a youtube video of Tyra and a model who was saying how she never felt pretty because she was dark. I pointed out in my comment that being white, although idealized by society over time, is not something to be valued anymore. Or, at least, it shouldn't be valued anymore. Skin color can't define a person. I pointed out how it sucks that we get moles, sun burns (bright red tomato skin( that peels), and turn pink from exercise. I think there are beautiful women in every ethnic group, and as i had said in response to Tyra's video, "the victorian era is over, so why are we still obsessed with pale skin." My point is that you are perfect just the way you are. It's like the blonde vs. brunette debate. There are blondes with prettier faces/ brunettes/ red heads/ black hair...etc.

Finally, just a additional comment...my sister's best friend has stunning brown skin, and looks like a model. I think it's a shame that there are so many people who judge based on skin color when it's such a trivial topic.

Chantel, to answer your question, I must say that I believe that it's unfair to say that "people think dark skin is not beautiful". There are many people who have an appreciation for dark skin just as there are people who have an appreciation for light skin. People are entittled to their preferences and there's nothing wrong with having them so long as it's not based on personal insecurities. You said that you are always told that you are pretty. Yet there are some that make fun of you because you are dark. Well why do those who make fun of you take precedence over those who say nice things about you. If you choose to listen to the negative and let that out weigh the positive, then your problem is not what people think, but rather what you think about yourself. It could be that you are insecure and others can see it. Accentuate your positives, women of all shades and races do that. Learn to be confident in your own skin. Confidence is a garment every one should wear. And I promise you it's more beautiful than in shade of skin.

P.S. I'm dark skinned and I've heard ignorant people say negative things about dark skin. But it hasn't had an effect on me I walk confidently and have been known to spark the interest of men of different races. Including black men who have had "redbone" admirers.

i cannot agree to the statement that black is beautiful...it cannot always be beaitutful....except for some cases you get to see few dark skinned yet beaituful ladies ina nd around you... i have had exp[ericed the dfficulty of keeping the dark skin and thus i have decided to go for a total make over.... beind dark.. i relaized i cannot readily opt few colors like neon...shades of white and peach( my fav shades)... and i ended up in common shades like blue,,,, balckj and brown...according to my opiniuon....when i was dark,,,i havent had the enough confidence to go ouit..for a party,.,,,fucntion or whatsoever ,,,,,then i dcided to become fair..in a way...i saretted applying all the home remedies and tips...and now i know i am fair..and pple started completing me....i can use all colors and shades and i dint wantio keep off from neo shades as well...ntuhgn has changed excpt my skin tone...and i wikll never say black is beaitiful......black can be beautiful...but not alwys.......and im not a racist to write all these..... i just wote what i felt as i have had expericned both the sides of a coin ..Stay happy :)...

Be proud of your color and don't ever feel bad about it. Most boys prefer different girls for different reasons. Don't ever change yourself to make someone else happy. So what if some guys prefer light skinned women? I think it's funny that women who are caucasion or light skinned go to tanning beds and bake themselves in the sun to get dark. They seriously risk skin cancer doing it too.

You will meet a guy who loves you for you, not for what color you are. BTW, I am part caucasion and part asian. You are beautiful just the way you are. I know men who much prefer beautiful dark skin to light skinned women. Love yourself and someone else will see the confident, beautiful, woman you are because if you don't love yourself first and appreciate your own value as a person, you can't expect someone else to love you. Confidence and intelligence is sexy and beautiful.

Media influence, decades of social brainwashing, and/or negative experiences as a result of having dark skin. My brother is only a shade darker than the model Jessica White and he got teased by black classmates about how dark he is. Dark skin is just as beautiful as any other. I think some people would just rather succumb to social bias than change their way of thinking.

Because it is matter of choice, not beauty, an example: between triangle, square and circle which format is best ?. Everyone has their beauty and formations. It's the same thing with humans, say that white is more beautiful than the black is like saying triangle is more beautiful than square, and it has no logic.
