Can you get return tickets on UK Trains before 9a.m?

you can get a standard return ticket or a standard day return at anytime before 0930am

For sure you can, but usually NOT a Day Return. I know you can get a day return for a train leaving before 0900 in some places, but I think that is only because it arrives in town after about 1000. This is so that you are not able to use a cheap day return ticket to go to work, as this would discourage the use of season tickets.

Next time you need to know about train tickets, just phone o8457 484950, or go to any train company website - they all give information for all the companies, eg www.GNER.com says that cheap day returns tomorrow on the route you mention start at 9.35am and cost £11.50, but at 9.03 you can get a return at £16, and earlier tickets cost £19.20, or £20. Buying in advance can secure cheaper tickets.
