The first three answerers are INCORRECT. Ford engines are numbered as follows:

FRONT
With that said, cylinder #3 is the THIRD cylinder in toward the firewall on the PASSENGER side, looking at the engine from the front of the vehicle. This cylinder is pretty difficult to access. Hope this helps.

The only thing other things are spark plugs and low compression or fuel injectors. Number 3 is in the center of the engine and #6 is at the rear, on opposite sides of the engine.

the above poster is correct. ford uses a different numbering system for their cylinders. the original posters were posting correct cylinder locations for GM and Chrysler.

Number 3 is the second cylinder from the radiator support towards the driver, on the driver's side. In other words, left bank, second cylinder.

2nd cylinder from the front of the engine on your right side as you are standing right in front of the car.
