Tarantula questions?

I want a Taratula . My grandma says I can have one in my room but she has these plug in things that send sound waves out to keep mice out of the house . Will this hurt a Tarantula ? What if its in my room and there are none in my room ? Can I still get one ? I don't want to hurt it or freek it out . Also do they poop a lot ?

Those things might harm a tarantula indeed, since they are very sensitive to sound vibrations, and those high-frequency things are designed to keep out true spiders and insects as well as mice. I don't know the range of sound for one of these things, so I honestly can't say whether or not the sound would penetrate to your room, especially if you kept the door shut. I CAN suggest a really great site where you can join for free, to ask questions of long-time tarantula keepers, and perhaps one of them has had some experience with these high-frequency anti-pest systems. I would not want to advise you to get a tarantula, only to have it subjected to extreme stress.

No, MOST tarantulas don't poop a lot; in fact you will probably not even notice it at all, UNLESS you happen to get one of the tarantulas in the Avicularia genus, usually known as "Pink-Toe" tarantulas in the pet trade. THOSE poop like Minah birds, and they will actually shoot a stream of spider poo at your face, if they feel threatened! This is one of their main defense mechanisms, and it works quite well(Been There, Done That)!
