Black Lab..excessive drooling and labored breathing..?

We have a 95 pound black lab. We noticed Sunday evening he was drooling excessively and has labored breathing. (imagine someone with a chest cold). Anyone experience this with their animal. I am hoping the neighbor jacka$$e$ didn't poison him overnight.

Update:

He is a 10 year old male. He is an outside dog. He is a hunting dog. Yes, he eats table scraps, but he normally eats his own dog food.

I feel bad for the ole' boy. We are going to keep an eye on him today, if he isn't back to his normal self tonight, he is going to the vet in the am. I hope it is just something the ole' boy ate.

Thank you to all of you that are concerned.

take him to the vet, sounds like poisoning or an allergy. Look in your yard for signs that poisoning took place.

Yes and then came the bloody nose,

    and worse diarrhea.

Get blankets and feed the dog only

warm broth. Give him a quiet place

to lay. If you're lucky it's just eaten

a plant or other toxic substance, a

    wild mushroom, etc... if he/she

has the recovery is about 2-3 days.

If the conditions worsens call the vet

it may be a type of cancer or something

    serious.

If you think your dog is going to die the

best place for the animal to go is at

    home in its comfortable surroundings

and not at the vets. Afterward, the

city should have a number you can

call to have the dog picked up. But

    hopefully it's not that serious.

    Good luck

If your Dog is free to roam in the neighbors yard where he gets a hold of a nice big salty Ham delicious too. The only way for the Dog to cool down is through his mouth and also to get rid of the salt content in his system.

Salt is not good for a Dog so watch out if he is getting into some baked Ham somewhere...lol

Run your Dog and let him exercise allot. Take him to the lake.

The more you run the Dog feed him High Protein Dog food.

There are pros's and con's about feeding your Dog table scraps. We are all guilty of this I'm sure.

I feed my Red bones table scraps because they run at night burning it off.

Whereas if you have a house Dog and feed them table scraps containing salt and that Dog doesn't;'t run it off, he can get sick. Its not Good for them.

IN my case, my Dogs go Coon Hunting at night every night and they know when the Sun goes down they're ready to run.

Hello, well hope your all getting him to a vet today ASAP if you suspect poisioning of any kind..am not sure the age of your lab, but it could be that or heartworms too - unless he's been on the preventative heartworm meds, etc..no matter what it is when your concerned & with such symptoms..he should be seen by a vet ..Take Care :)
