psychologist - what are study requirements?

I would love to study Psychology - I dont know where to start or how long it takes. Im in my 30's with husband, son and a career, but see this as something I would enjoy way into my old age. Any advice greatly appreciated - thanks.

I suspect you will find there are no requirements except getting accepted to study and paying the fees :) I know it is the case here anyways.

I would check the institute(s) you are wanting to study at and ask them, so just go there, track down the psychology department and they will probably give you a handbook or something similar about the requirements (if any) and the types of courses etc.

How long it would take depends on what your plans would be. 3 years or so would get you a Bachelors, but does not give you much in terms of being able to work in a clinical setting.

To see clients and help them you would need a Masters at a minimum which is another 3 years or so after completion of a Bachelors (and maybe studying in a clinical psychology program at the same time or after). Then you can go on to do a PhD which can be about another 2 years.

find a big big big important-looking book on psychology and read it in your spare time. psychology is a science, everything known by humans about psychology and other psychological things have been discovered through tests and logic and recorded in various books and sources. if you find the right book, get it and read it. look on the internet. if you want to be a psychologist go to college. if you just find this an interesting topic then probably just do lots of reading and analysis on the topic. good luck and have fun.

Psychology is easier if you already 'have it in you'.

I have a natural ability for it, as do my children.

I've spoken to others who do not understand any of it at all.
