I'm used to aol im were when you send or recieve there is a noise that lets you know you have sent something

or recieved a message but with yahoo messenger there is no noise to let you know you have recieved a message is there a way to have that on yahoo messager? Is there a way to have that or not..Say your in the other room and someone send you a message there is no way of knowing unless you look at your computer..Please help me I have tried everyway to get a answer to this

So you want an audible notification when you receive or send messages? O.K. I warn you though that it will give you a headache if you're on Yahoo IM a lot.

Launch Yahoo Im and go to Messenger , then Preferences.
the on the right, choose Alerts and Sounds. Check the box which says enable alert shoulds and it should begin to work immediately.

Not Hearing Your Familiar Sounds in Yahoo Messenger?
Make sure you have your Alerts&Sounds enabled.  Go to top of YM and click on Messenger then go to Preferences.  Click on the Alerts&Sounds category and make sure that you have them enabled. If you are saying that you are just not getting the sounds that you are used to such as the buzz and the door knocking sound, yahoo changed these in later buildings of yahoo messenger but you can get these louder sounds back, see this help page on that topic:  http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/messenger/messenger8/messenger/messenger-38.html

Please note that hearing sounds has nothing to do with your microphone but your speakers, so that is what you would want to test, that they are turned on and the volume up.

There is a noise on mine like a ping, it's pretty quiet, so turn your volume up louder.
