What is the difference between the antidepressants -Sertraline HCI, Fluoxetine HCI and Phenelzine Sulfate?
A friend of mine took Prozac and lost a ton of weight. I took Zoloft for a while and gained a bunch of weight which made me even MORE depressed so I quit taking it. I noticed thery are made from two different chemicals. The nurse said the Zoloft "slows" people down. Does the Prozac "speed" you up then?? What is the difference in how they affect the brain chemicals and the way you feel? I don't want to get back on another antidepressant and gain 10 more pounds. I work out way too hard as it is.
When I stopped the Zoloft, I immediately dropped the 10 pounds... and I was working out the same amount.

anti depressants work on mostly 3 different chemicals, seratonine, dopamine and one other chemical that i cant remember. each medication enhances one, 2 or all of these chemcals. So if one medication doesnt work an other just might. so if youre taking the a medication that doesnt work for you try a diffrent one that will work, it is a hit or miss. Theres no test to tell exactly which one you need
