Is it necessary to get tasered during training?

I have seen a lot of videos showing law enforcement guys tasering each other. Im wondering if this is a requirement during the training of a taser at the academy? and if so, is it so that the officers know what it feels like and when to actually use it or what? Im in Colorado

One of my best friends is a Taser instructor. He told me that it is not necessary to pass the course, however, this is what I was told when I went through the training.

A law enforcement officer is completely justified to draw his weapon (gun) and kill someone who is pointing a taser at them. If you end up killing them and have to go to court, you will be able to explain to the jury that you know "based on your training" that if the suspect would have tased you, then it would have rendered you incopasitated and he/she could have taken your gun and killed you. The only way to know for sure what the effects of the tasers are, is to get tased.

I fully recommend you go ahead and get tased so you have that experience.

in alot of departments you have the choice of getting tased or not, although some departments require you to do so..as funny as it seems being tased is a way of getting certified to use the weapon....most police academies have a strict policy on getting mased and again that is to certify you to use the weapon.

As most others have stated it truley depends on your Departments policies.

However as a been there done that type. it's over very quick and adds a lot of credibility to you testimony!

not to pass the academy ( at least in the ones I know of)

But you have to do it , to be certified to carry and use one.

It hurts bad, real bad when it happens, but pain does not last that long.
