Problem with doing a restore.?
I did a restore on my Windows XP computer to a date from a couple of months earlier and didn't like the results. I tried to "undo" the restore, but it tells me it can't restore to that point (today) and to pick another date. I've picked several other dates in between and it still gives me the same message. Any suggestions?
Yes, the dates I chose are in bold. It took quite a while to do the first restore & then when I try to undo it, it gets half way through before it gives me the message it can't restore to that date.

- Actually I didn't yet encounter such problems altough there are similar problems that I meet previously. If you are using a registry cleaner, it is maybe the cause of your problem, when you are cleaning your registry, its iether that some of the important DLL were deleted by that registry cleaner which is needed to run the restoration point properly. Because when using some registry cleaner which is not quite good, then it can also clean or removes some of the important files like DLL files.
- Another reason is maybe your computer is not set to monitor the restoration point of both the C and the D drives or maybe it was turned off. Try to go to the Control Panel, then click the System Icon and after that go in the System Restore Tab, and uncheck the 'Turn off system restore in all drives'.
- If non of the above is the cause of your problem, then your computer may be attack by a virus that prevent such program to work properly. Try to run your Antivirus Software and if it was not able to detect any virus, then try to use the CCleaner, it maybe that there are some issues that hinder the function of the System Restore Point. If done and the restoration problem still exist, then you may need to reformat your hard drives, maybe your system was corrupted.
- Another is may be you are not log on with an administrator account so you are not allowed to restore computer to an earlier state. Or you may try this other steps on restoring your computer:
1. Restart your computer, and then press F8 during the initial startup to start your computer in Safe Mode or Safe Mode with a command prompt.
2. A description of the Safe Mode Boot options in Windows XP
3. Log on to your computer with an administrator account or with an account that has administrator credentials.
In Safe Mode type or paste the following command in the Start - Run box then press Enter. In Safe Mode Command Prompt type the following command then press ENTER.
%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe
4. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to restore your computer to an earlier state, or undo the last restore if available.
- Try also to find some information abaut your problem on the internet. :-)
