you can do a change of responsibility and put it in her name. just go to a sprint store and tell them what you want to do. it may cost you a small fee, but no where near the price of an early termination fee. you wont be able to take your number with you though.

if she takes over your sprint subscription and number, no. if you port (take your number with you) and are still under contract, yes you will get the cancellation fee. the only ways sprint will let you out of your contract. is death, military leave and severe hospitilization (have to prove it) there is one loophole. if you activate a nextel phone and port your sprint # over to nextel this will waive your sprint cancellation charge (because they are different networks and service but the same company), then once you sprint acc. is cancelled, return your nextel phone and cancel service within the 30 day risk free trial and just pay for a partial month both accounts are cancelled with out etf's. (early termination fee)
also there is no fee to do a transfer of liability. but both you and your mom need to go to a sprint store together with 2 forms of identification. to authorize the transfer from your acc. to her new acc. everything in your subscription (including the contract) will transfer to her acc.. but depending on her credit, she may have to pay a deposit which is refunded after 12 months.

If the plan continues as its supposed to, then there will be no fees. If the phone is going on another plan, then expect HUGE fees. Tmobile is great though!
