The Scots want Independence?

Is that a good idea when so many of them cant read/write properly. The numbers of spoilt ballot papers was incredible. over 100000 people put numbers where letters should be and vice versa

Update:

I didn't say most of the scots cant read and write at all. I am watching the programme "How Scotland voted" on tv. An MSP has just stated that too many balot papers were missread,or not filled it in properly

btw I live in Scotland. we get adverts saying that "1 in 5 scots have problems with reading, writing or numbers"

Update 2:

Just to let you know I am not a biggot and certainly not a racist Roxy24. I have lived in Scotland for 4 years. I love Scotland and the Scottish people.I think i'm one of the few English people who actually cheer the Scots on when there playing sporting events. I have many Scottish (and black for that matter) friends. My aim was not to insult the Scottish but the shear amount of incorrectly filled in ballot papers. Appologies if any offence was caused

In reply to your main question, I would say it's not so much a matter of people wanting independence, but of being fed up with Labour and the Tories. Many of these people see the Nationalists as being the only viable alternative.

With regard to the spoilt ballot papers, people are creatures of habit and often try to carry out tasks too quickly and without reading instructions through properly beforehand. I am willing to bet that since many people are so accustomed to filling in ballot papers by marking them with an X, they will have written in an X instead of a number on the local council paper out of sheer habit and without giving it any second thought. Also, this is the first time voters (large numbers of whom are elderly in some parts of Scotland) have been required to fill in national and local council papers both at once; up until now, local council elections have always been held seperately.

There are very few English who do not have a substantial amount of Celt or Norse blood in them, no matter how hard they have tried to bury it over the years.

England would have fallen flat on it's indolent rump a long time ago were it not for the infusion of the creativity, intellect, fortitude and financial talents of the Scots and other Celtic people.

That is why the Queen basicly sells knighthood, to bring in more money to an ailing nation.

The new world would not have been settled had it not been for the Scot and Irish and again England would have gone flat on it's rump. It was a Scot who kept the natives from murdering John Smith, and of course the English paid them back, both the Scots and the Native Americans by massacring them.

I don't see any mention of how the ballot was put together or what form of instructions were available or how well trained the poll operators were. All of these are key factors in running a clean election. It sounds to me like the ballot was rigged from the start.

The English have tried to use the Celts as their scapegoats and cash cow for far too long. If the union is in trouble it is because of the long standing history of mismanagement by the English and their constant need to be bailed out by the Scots, Welsh and Irish.

The racist bigotry of the English trying to act superior to the Celtic peoples is long past due for a redressing.

Source(s): Extensive historic studies and a very long Norman and Scots bloodline not far removed from the current Royal line.

Do the Scots want independence? What is this based on?

Secondly, the Scottish education system is renowned for being better and getting better results than the English system, so I'd put the spoiled ballot papers down to a problem with the voting system (being too complicated) than the Scottish voters.

First of all why did you say that most of us cant read/write properly when you look at the postings so far who have answered your question with spelling mistakes!

I am scottish but completed my secondary school learning at a girls school in the south of england and got excellent GCSE results in english, maths etc. So we are not all idiots !

You will encounter this problem also in England & Wales not just Scotland so i am upset at some of these comments about us scots.

I for one do not want Scotland to become independant as this would be a travesty to Scotland and the union.

Yes a high percentage want SNP in but most of us are keen to point out that the United Kingdom includes Scotland, England, Northern Island & Wales and we want it to stay that way for another 300 years.

Dont put all us scots in the one pot!

Thats a very sad question. There are just as many of you who cant read or write, and your question just shows how arrogant and ignorant you are. Im not putting all the English in a box like you are with the scots but as a person you sound like a right prick, you should be ashamed of yourself, Britain has enough biggots and you've just proved yourself one of them. Are you racist aswell by any chance ?

  • ooh nasty. You are probably english and therefore consider yourself more intelligient than the rest of us. Mind you the Scots have always known where thier country stops and England starts. Pity the English didn't also know this
