Breast Sonogram after mammograms results?

I had a mammogram last Tuesday, today they called me from the place the mammogram was done and told me I need a sonogram as there were 2 small stains in the mammogram's result, I am 43 and have always had painful small lumps in the side of the left breast but I was todl it was fibrocyst, now I am a little scared, is it usual that they want to perform a sonogram after a mammogram?, anybody has been in the same situation as me, thanks

I had exact same thing. There was a small lump. It was removed in day surgery and I am happy to say I am in the 80% that was non-cancerous. Don't worry yours is likely the same. I had Fibrocystic Breast Disease all my life. After menopause it is much better.

Good information in the link. If you educate yourself you'll feel more confident.

A mammogram will simply show abnormal tissue. A sonogram will show more detail, such as whether it is a fluid-filled cyst or if it is a solid mass with a blood supply (which is BAD). In other words, it really isn't all that unusual that they would want to evaluate a spot on your mammogram with a sonogram.

Source(s): personal experience, diagnosed with breast cancer at 28, and fyi, the sonogram showed a solid mass with a blood supply (veins flowing through the mass).
