Permanentley straightening my hair---is it worth it?

hey guys, one of my friends got her hair permanently straightened at the salon because she has thick, bushy curls and it helped straighten out her hair. my hair is wavy, and easy to straighten, but i think straightening my hair every morning is causing more and more damage to it every day. i think if i get it permanently done once in a while i wont have to deal with a ton of split ends and other crap. but the thing is permanently straightening your hair is a lot of cash---like $100-300!! i wanted to know if its even worth it?! pleaseee help!

Update:

thanks guys for all the advice, i have decided NOT to get my hair permanently straightened. ill stick with my wavy hair! ive been researching the sedu straightener and i just ordered it-- so thanks guys for all the great help!

Ok...chemically doing anything to your hair is not "permanent" it grows out. Depending on the type of straightener they stylist uses ( I DO NOT recomend getting one from walmart or target and doing it yourself, you may end up with chemical burns that way) you will always have to use that type of straightener, never a different kind, for instance, if you use a no-lye straightener, always use that type or you will end up with very short hair when it breaks off.

Retouches should be done when you see at least an inch outgrowth. The new growth WILL be wavy.

Or hey, using a flat iron is the best, and least damaging method. Just use a mouse or smoothing milk before straightening.

Decide whether you like your hair better when it's wavy or straight. I used to straighten my hair a lot, but I did this and decided I looked better with wavy hair and went with it.

If you keep your hair wavy, you can always straighten it and use hair products to prevent damage. Should you decide to permanently straighten your hair, I'm sure that if you want it wavy you can use something to give it a wave. It really depends on what you want. Anyone can tell you what they think you should do, but in the end it really is up to you and what you want.

I dont think its really Permanetley straightened, it is a chemicl procedure that straightens the hair you already have grown out. The wave or curl of your hair is decided by the way the shaft of your hair grows. So any new hair would grow in wavey/curly and you would eventually need to have the procedure again.

If the $$ is not an issue for you then do it, if it will save yu time and make you happy, why not? Its like any other cosmetic procedure, its only important to you and done to make you happy! Go for it!

They claim that it will not damage your hair, but I do not see how it wont. The length it will last depends on how fast your hair grows. The faster it grows the less it will last, because your roots will kick in. I wouldn't not recommend it, I would recommend buying a good quality ceramic hair straightener, and straitening it no more than twice a week. So wash your hair, let it air dry, blow dry it completely, straiten in twice a week. The average hair should only be washed about 2-3 times a week anyways. Hope this helps

i had this done before and i really liked it, although i don't think i would have it done again. my hair is kind of wavy but gets frizzy if i don't straighten it. when my hair started growing back though it was wavy again. if you don't want to spend that much having it permanently straightened just make sure you do a lot of upkeep (conditioning treatments, getting your hair trimmed ect) i have a chi straighter and i love it! it makes my hair so soft and shiny. it cost about $100 but it was worth it.

    good luck!

I think you should do more research on this. From what i know (from past readings ... cuz I wanted to do this too), "permanently" (and I put in quotes because it isn't permanent) straightening hair actually damages hair in the long run. Relaxing hair involves loads of chemicals and as we know, chemical processes can lead to hair damage (just like with hair dye --- and hair dye isn't as intense).

Well, if you don't straighten your hair every day, you could do many things with it and not damage your hair or spend a lot of money.

Things you could do with your hair:

    -French Braid

    -Messy Bun

    -Ponytail

    -Scrunch (with mousse works best)

    -Regular Bun

    -Regular Braids

    -Half Ponytail

    -Curl

-Straighten on occasion, maybe once or twice a week

    Hope those suggestions helped you!

no it messes with your hair. Even if it someday grows out your hair will never be the same it will probably grow very slow and be brittle after a while. If you are concerned about the damage by your straigtener then just don't do it every day.

You should buy salon products that you apply before you straighten your hair. It helps, and keeps your hair healthier if you straighten it every day.
