Driving From Los Angeles to Las Vegas? Places to stop?

I am planning a trip to Las Vegas in the near future! A group of my friends(20ppl tops) Are going to drive for Los Angeles area to Las Vegas. I’m Wondering if anyone knows a good place to stop, stretch our legs, get a bite to eat maybe. Fill up the tank? Somewhere on the I-15 about half way! Maybe something with some shopping(something simple like a supermarket, or even a 7-11)? Incase we feel like stocking up and anything. Or maybe a very interesting attraction? We want to keep it cheep too! Thank you!

hey! i travel numerous times from vegas to san diego and back. your main stops will probably be victorville > barstow > then baker.

1] Victorville/Hesperia -- there are many gas stops, as it is a much bigger city/town than barstow and baker. there's a mall that you could see while on the I-15 and many stores in the area.

2] Barstow -- people it's LENWOOD. not lynnwood. once u get in the vicinity of Barstow, you wont be able to miss the Tangier outlet. exit here and eat at any fast food restaurant you can think of. oh and the gas stops too, they might be a little expensive.

3] Baker -- besides the world's tallest thermometer, there's fastfood restaurants here too. so why not get some starbucks here as you are only about 1:30 minutes away from vegas :p

have a fun and safe travel :]

It is actually a quick drive about 5 hours. The inbetween stop in Barstow, I would stop at the first exit "Lynnwood" There is a flying J and the gas is usually the cheapest. (the smaller places such as Baker have pricy gas) The other great thing about the Lynnwood exit is the outlet mall, they have Coach, Banana Republic, among others. Definatly nice to stop if you have the time, if not grab an ice cream cone in the Dairy queen when paying for gas at the flying J (or pretty much anything else), because it will probably be hot.

I really don't recommend stopping in Baker, due to the smell. It has a bad oder most of the time. My husband use to live in San Diego and I would travel evey weekend. Baker is really just a see on the freeway sort of town, plus their main street is busy.

Have a fun trip and stay safe!

There's pretty much nothing worth stopping at once you leave the LA metro area (Victorville). I always make a ritual out of stopping to pee and get gas at Primm (immediately at the state border) because it's well-lit and easy to navigate, and the Chevron (I think) there has clean, large, shiny restrooms and a large convenience store (with slot machines). There's also a few new-looking casinos but

    I've never gone inside.

You can see Death Valley real quick on the way there or back if you don't mind spending a whole day for it. Use US hwy 395, CA Route 190, and US Hwy 95. You can also stay in Beatty NV, Ridgecrest or Lone Pine CA, or in the park itself if you want to spend more time there.

  • i'm not sure what city this is in...but i do know it's on the way to vegas. my research indicates its about 8 miles before barstow.

it's called peggy sue's diner. FABULOUS PLACE. i go there everytime i'm on my way out to vegas. it's a 50's style restaurant with their own ice cream parlour and gift shop filled with pop memorabilia from the 50's . the whole place is decorated with close attention to detail and it really enhances your dining experience. be sure to take a picture with the life-size elvis statue!

p.s. calico ghost town is also nearby and makes for quite an interesting experience. take a ride on the horses if you're really looking to spend some time.

Baker and Barstow are good places. Be careful with the Barstow stop, it's hard to see at night.

Not much out there. State line has some small casio's, and if I remember correctly, a rollercoaster. But once you make it to state line, most people get gas, go pee, buy beer and get back on the road for Vegas.

umm victorville is a life saver! my boyfriend lives in SD and i live in LV so i take the 15 every two weeks! victorville is halfway, and of course barstow has an outlet and a place to stop and get food, but it's bussier than victorville.

Source(s): i travel the 15 from SD to LV every other week.
