Why do we say "we know it by heart" when our brain did all the work?

    Well, really when you think about it, it's the heart that pumps the blood and gets the oxygen to the brain. So I guess that could be why.

    People used to think that the heart was actually the brain. That's were a lot of our references to "heart" come from. I guess when you know something by heart, you know it so well it seems like you don't use your brain, so maybe that ties in to the saying too.

    I agree and what about "I LOVE you with all my heart" It's the brain power that controls it. NOT very smart of us and our brains is it?!

    i think heart is a metaphore for soul, and it means that u r deeply sure

    makes it sound more meaningful, don't change the outcome or the answer peple usually know where the answer came from
