When I highlight something in MS Word, then start typing, the highlighted text doesn't delete - help?

In the past, if I highlighted text and started typing, it would delete the highlighted text. Now it just adds in whatever I'm typing and doesn't delete anything.

Did I change some setting accidently? How can I change it back?
