2007 presidentail 1 dollar coins, anybody know about them?

The coins could have been damaged at the mint in many different ways.My best guess would be that they were damaged by the machine that counted & wrapped them. There is no such thing as a certified bank roll. No one certifies that the bank wrapped them. They were not wrapped by the local bank anyway, they were done at the Federal Reserve Bank nearest you. There are 12 Federal Reserve districts in the U.S. each one having a Federal Reserve bank. Now you can by rolls wrapped by the U.S. mint people, but must buy them from the mint. They send the dollars out in bulk unrwrapped to the Fed. Banks. I believe they use large plastic bags now, the day of the nice cloth bags has gone by. Spend the dollars and get another roll. I know it is disapointing to go though a roll of uncirculated coins and find junk, but it has happened to me a lot over the years.

Definately could have been circulated, and then collected by bank and rolled. These coins have one purpose. To dispense change in Postage machines, so they get pretty beat up if not saved off the mint floor.

When they make coins, (at least what I have seen on TV) they let them drop in big boxes.

So most of them will fall on top of others and have others fall on top of them. Therefor the gouges.

For the special collector editions and mint quality coins they use special trays to make sure they do not drop on the others.
