Where are the best "family" areas to live in Dallas.?

I am looking at moving to Dallas to attend school at Parker. I am moving from Birmingham, AL. I am trying to find the best place to live. I have a young son and would need to live in nice area, with good schools. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks in advance.

North Dallas and it's suburbs are known for being the best to live and having great schools. Richardson and Plano are two good areas. Highland Park is known for being a "yuppy" area because it is the richest (or one of the richest) suburbs in Dallas. Huge homes,etc...Anyway, it also has great schools and a high standard of living.

Parker is right next to Plano. My grandmother used to live in Parker (for over 50 years).... most of the area in Parker is farmland, but it's slowly growing more commercial. Plano however is a very nice family friendly area, as is Allen, which bleeds into Plano. Both are great shopping areas and have either a regular or outlet mall. They're right on Central, so you'll have an easy way to nagivate around the metroplex, and Plano has Parker Rd. which runs straight to Parker!

Good areas with good schools are: Plano, Allen, McKinney, Frisco, Lewsville, Carrollton, Flower Mound, Grapevine, Rockwall, Wylie, The Colony.

I lived in Allen for 18 years and did interim construction lending (loans to home builders) so I spent a lot of time in a lot of the areas doing inspections on my properties. These are a few of the cities I would look at if I had to do it again. We also had children when we moved and schools were important to us as well. Stay away for the Dallas School District

Richardson and North Dallas are the best areas to raise a family. The houses are still very affordable. (Around Coit and Belt Line, in the Spring Creek area) a 5 bedroom house can be had for under 250K. It's not overdeveloped and the Richardson School district is incredible. I got a 1340 on my SATs going there.
