I agree with the previous answer, although I'd caution you to order flowers delivered in a box (which is how pro flowers and the 1-800-flowers products marked "fresh from our growers come)--if you're concerned with making an immediate impression.

Often, flowers that come in a box need to be taken out of the box, cleaned, arranged, cut, and put into water. Often they come still budded, so it takes a few days for them to open up. Don't expect them to be presentable immediately--it's like buying green bananas at the supermarket...they last a long time, but they might not taste their best the first day you get them.

If you want to make an immediate impression, I'd say stick with florist delivered flowers. 1-800-flowers has these (look for product marked "hand delivered by a local florist), as well as companies like teleflora. You can also use yellowpages.com to find a local florist in that area--although the benefit of going through one of the 'big' flower companies is that they'll fight for you in case something goes wrong--they generally have strict guidelines for accepting florists into their network.

I wrote to someone else that I'd recommend getting the flowers a few days before Mother's Day--even on Friday or Saturday. The rush on Sunday will be so great that if you buy earlier, you'll almost certainly get a much better product.

    Good luck!

BUY LOCAL! The freshest and best flowers in Portland are available at Sammies Flowers on Glisan in Northwest Portland - next door to the Trader Joes. NW Glisan and 21st. They are really nice, make excellent bouquets, have the best flowers and ornametal plants, and they definitely know how to service a crowd.

Hey there, if you go to 800 flowers or pro flowers website, they will deliver flowers to your mom from local florists. I do it all the time for my mom for special occasion where she lives. The website is below and they have a great selection.

    http://www.1800flowers.com/

    http://www.proflowers.com/

(pro flowers is my favorite...the flowers last much longer)
