Gas prices?
why is everyone complaing about gas and not riding a bike to work its safer for the environment anyways. did you know that in eruope gas is 4$ a liter thats 12$ a gallon most either catch a bus or ride there bike to work some have mopeds or motorcycles i dont see them complaing about the gas prices.
We as americans have it so well of but still complain why?
it is understandable if you live 40 miles away from your job and have to drive to work. as for catching a bus if you can, and the bus schedule is just a lil off from your work scedule why cant you crawlout of bed earlier to catch the bus or simply get a motorcycle if you really dont want to wake up a lil earlier for the bus. so what if you have to wait a lil bit to clock in because your job doesnt like over time eat breakfast or something.
adbulon i am an american my self infact im a soliders wife thats why im here in europe .how do you know the european economy if you have never been here your self. i never said any country is better than another or anything like that.
i just want others to realize that we as americans have it so better off but still complain when many countries have it worse than us.

Unfortunately, many cities in the US were built on an urban sprawl model. In other words, the metro areas are very spread out and full of boulevards and other streets that are dangerous for bike riding. Therefore, many people are forced to drive around. Most cities I have been to in Europe are largely condensed into a centralised area with excellent rail systems and other good options for mass transit. Plus, urban areas are better suited for walking and biking. However, many US cities are sprawled out with the idea that people will drive their car from strip-mall to strip-mall.
Additionally, many major cities in the US such as Chicago, New York, and San Francisco have great mass transit systems. However, many people choose to live in the outlying suburbs of those areas with few mass transit options and a longer commute to work because the price per square foot for property is lower and they can afford a larger house for their budget. Many people would rather live in a 2,000 square foot house in the suburbs and drive 40 miles to work than live in a 1,000 square foot condo in the city and walk to work.
It's a shame because many people would like to bike or take mass transit. Additionally, there are also health benefits to biking or taking mass transit and then walking the rest of the way to the destination. However, there simply aren't convenient biking or mass transit options for many Americans.

I find USAans complain too much about a lot of stuff. I'm from Costa Rica. The gas prices there are ridiculous too, but people just pay it (if they have cars). Most folks ride the bus (or taxis if they can afford it). I don't like how high the gas prices are these days because I can remember a time when I paid $0.76! I can't believe I get excited now to pay $2.00! The problem is that in many places it is not feasible to ride bikes to work. I live in the Atlanta area. Public transportation is not available everywhere. And people tend to live so far from their jobs, they have to almost drive out of town! Furthermore, the roads are too dangerous for bikers. In short, suck it up and pay for the gas. We need it 'cause we like to drive. So let's not complain! :)

A valid question. The reason that most Americans complain, is that our cities, and therefore the places we have to be, are very spread out. The idea of riding a bike would be good, if you didn't work, forty miles from home. Taking a bus would be fine, except that your shift either begins or ends, when the buses are not running. Therefore we depend on our cars, and when the gas prices increase, and our salary doesn't we complain.

Compairing America to Europe is an insult to Americans. We have always done better than Europe in most respects, especially our economy.
As for riding a bike to work, that is not an option for me because of the things I must take to work with me and the distances I must travel.

NO GAS...On May 15th 2007
Don't pump gas on May 15th
In April 1997, there was a "gas out" conducted nationwide in protest of gas prices. Gasoline prices dropped 30 cents a gallon overnight.
On May 15th 2007, all Internet users are to not go to a gas station in protest of high gas prices. Gas is now over $3.00 a gallon in a lot of places.
There are 73,000,000+ American members currently on the Internet network, and The average car takes about 30 to 50 dollars to fill up.
If all users did not go to the pump on the 15th, it would take
$2,292,000,000.00 (that's almost 3 BILLION) out of the oil companies pockets for just one day, so please do not go to The gas station on May 15th and lets try to put a dent in the Middle Eastern oil industry for at least one day.
If you agree (which I cant see why you wouldn't) re-post This. With it saying, ''Don't pump gas on May 15th"

Good point
Cheap gas and owning a car is not a right.
If there were less cars on the road, I may not have been hit by a truck while riding my bike to work.

Where you Americans fall behind Europe is in your overall physical health.
