curly hair help??

you definitely should get long layers... if you get short layers that start above your jawline... it will look like a shag... if you bet a blunt cut your hair will look like the shape of a bell where all the poof and weight will be at the bottom... when you do long layers, you can start your first layer just above your shoulder, that way when it dries it does not shrink. Also the best part of about having the cut is when you straighten your hair... it looks great. dont get fringes or framing (as you already know) I got super curly hair and gotten plenty of different hair cuts and I am also a hairdresser.. and that is a great cut for your type of hair. Dont let the person who is cutting your hair to convince you on framing or bangs or fringes or to go shorter... JUST SAY NO... and before they cut they are suppose to show you how much they will cut before the actually do it..... I hope that this encouraged you

I speciaize in curly hair. I have tight curlly hair myself, that is why I got into this business 21 years ago now. I would suggest that you only get a trim every 3 months, about 1/4-12 inch (what ever your willing to let go of) only at the bottom and every other time all over so you can gain some length all over. Curly hair grows curlly under the scalp so it seems to take longer to grow out. But if you let the whispys grow out too much and they start splitting they can split all the way up and you will loose the entire hair so make sure to keep getting trimls only.

This website lists the different salons in your area that specialise in cutting curly hair. It also has a place for people who go there to leave "feedback" on their hair cut, salon, and hair dresser. It is a great way to find someone in your area who know what s/he are doing with your hair.

ASK QUESTIONS: Do they cut hair wet or dry. Curly hair bounce back more that straight hair and so it may only be half an inch of hair but ends up looking like 2" when cut wet. What kinds of training have they received? And go in to meet with them before you let them touch your hair with scissors. Trust me on this one :)

Also you know what your hair does better than anyone else. Bring pictures along of what you want your hair to look like. But be realistic, if your hair has a natural part on the side (like mine does) don't go in and ask them to part your hair on the other side, etc.

If you want layers, always ask for subtle ones, such as square layering. That is where they pull your hair straight out at a 90 degree angle and cut. That way you are getting a layered look, but still is managed with curls. Hope this help.

Just don't get high layers cuz it will make your hair appear thicker and puffy. I have curly hair too and someone framed my face w/out telling me and I was pissed but as it grew it looked a little better. just get an even blunt cut. I would get my hair cut when it is straightened out so that they won't get lost in the curls and make it uneven.

i like my hair straight. but sometimes its nice to have curls every once and a while. for school i straighten it everyday. and maybe once every week or two i curl it for a day or so{:
