What happened to Dr. Greg House's leg.?

I had completely given up on network tv, because I couldnt stand all of the "reality" shows and the really tasteless NOT FUNNY sitcoms. I have recently discovered this show, HOUSE and I LOVE it. I have watched about 5 new episodes and try to catch reruns when I can but I'm not up to speed on all the back stories.... HELP!!!

House embarked on a relationship with Stacy, a constitutional lawyer. Five years later, he suffered an infarction in his right leg, which caused his quadriceps muscles to become necrotic. House had the dead muscle bypassed in order to restore circulation to the remainder of his leg, accepting the possibility that the release of the chemicals that resulted from the blockage would cause organ failure and/or cardiac arrest; also, he was willing to endure excruciating chronic pain as a trade-off for retaining the use of his leg. After House was put into a chemically-induced coma, to sleep through the worst of the pain, Stacy decided to exercise her right as House's medical proxy and chose a safer surgical middle-ground between amputation and a bypass involving removing just the dead muscle. This resulted in a partial loss of the use of his leg, and left House with a lesser, but still serious, level of pain for the rest of his life. House could not forgive Stacy for making the decision, so she left him (cf. "Three Stories"); she eventually married a high school guidance counselor named Mark Warner, who was House's patient in "Honeymoon."

Great show. The story about his leg is shown in a flash back episode that's prompted when his past great love (actress Sela Ward) shows up at the hospital. The problem with his leg began with a misdiagnosis. Won't go through the medical jargon, but the sure fire way to save his life was to amputate, he refuses to lose the leg. He opts to wait it out in terrible pain to see if it will heal, but may also kill him. They then decide to put in into an artificial coma to help. He of course leaves is (former) love in charge and as soon as he's unconscious she signs permission for a risky operation. When he comes to he's alive, has his leg, will never walk without the cane and will be in constant pain. She loves him and thought this was the only way to save him and the leg - although you don't see the details, you realize this had caused them to break up. You get the information because House is sharing a case study with a class he is forced to teach. You don't realize who he is actually talking about till the end (Chase or Carter figure it out - I forget). I think it was during the mid first season.

House, MD is one of the most watched TV series on today. In fact, it's more widely seen than the hit series LOST!

His leg, back in the earlier days when he was married, got hit with dying muscle cells. They had two options to help him- an experimental surgery to remove the dead cells to prevent it from spreading to his body - OR remove the leg.

The doctors wanted to remove his leg but Dr. House made them go ahead with the surgery. Thus he walks with a limp and is always in pain because of the muscle death.

I'm kinda in the same boat...I wasn't feeling well one night and my husband decided that we would watch his favorite show together...House...at first I wasn't into it but then it started to get interesting and good....So now I'm trying to catch up and get all the info from when it first started...But I think he had some type of car accident or something and that's how his leg got shattered....

He tore a muscle that became necrotic, he had to have surgery they wanted to amputate it but he wouldn't let them. His wife signed papers against his will to have more extensive surgery than he wanted. He is left with pain caused by the removal of portions of his muscle.

he had a disease that i cant remember the name to, but it was destroying the muscles in his body, kinda like polio. so to save him, his former lawyer girlfriend had the doctors take out the infected muscle before it could spread to his heart. the muscle was in his leg.
