I am searching for anything negative about Qatar.?

Everything I find online makes the place sound like a resort- the most perfect safe place in the world. My EX sister in law wants to move there with her child (she works w/Exxon) and we are trying to prove that it is unsafe. PLEASE HELP!

I am originally european and to be more precised from Spain. I lived between Bahrain and Qatar for over a year just couple of years ago. The country is very safe indeed and there are thousands of expatriates mainly from UK. There is nothing to worry about except the terrible high temperatures in summer time and that it can be a sort of a boring country.

There is nothing negative I could say about Qatar as I had an incredible time plus to live in a totally different culture also teaches you a lot.

    Actually, it's pretty safe.

Any employee of a large international corporation like Exxon will have a lot of housing, transportation, social, and security support while living in Qatar. Will she be in Doha? My family has lived there for two years now and has never had any complaints about anything but the heat! There are good schools, shopping, art, restaurants.... The only negative I can think of is that it's pretty expensive to fly in and out of Doha. Then again, your ex-SIL's work will probably pay for that, too.

Why do you not want her to move there? The pay is probably fantastic - it usually is for expatriate Americans in the petroleum industry.

If your ex in-law is a christian, for sure she will have, as well as her kids, problems with religious rules, laws and regulations. For instance, foreigners and natives alike, are forbidden from eating pork meat. Cultural issues come into play as well, not to mention the fact that multinational companies like Shell, Exxon and so forth, are always at risk from kidnapping or terrorist threats due their relation with the US government.

Certainly, Qatar is a beautyfull country, but certainly also it's not risk free, nor is it a cheap country to live in.
