Why does Windows update take so long?

Hiya. After i've logged off my laptop the message about Windows update installing 1 of 1 appears. It says that my pc will shut down automatically & not to unplug it etc.

I left it this evening & came back to it about 90 minutes later & the update was still going on.Is this normal for an update & how can i speed it up? Or do i just let it download the updates for as long as it takes? It's really annoying!

I only thing I think of that took that long to update was the browser upgrade from IE6 to IE7.

If you already have IE7 then you may have a frozen system.

It depends on the update the long ones are due to windows backng up the old files and setting before replacement. It can also be creating a restore point

That's probably frozen on you - good old Windows!

If you want to sort it out....get a Mac.
