Are there restrictions on fishing near the Hawaiian Islands now.?

I just returned from my bi-yearly trip to the Islands and could not find any place that had fresh Hawaiian fish.

I asked at one restaurant and was told that due to recent over-fishing of Hawaiian fish, there were restrictions put on fishing within 200 miles of the Islands.

Is this true and how long are the restrictions going to last?

There are some due to endangered species. You have to get a permit & its best to hire a guide that way they can take you to all the good spots & you don't have to worry about doing something wrong!!!!
