Usually it was what experts call "day residue"....something that happened during the day will trigger the dream. Also, something that happened during the day will trigger a distant memory that you have long since forgotten. Then, you dream about it at night. Ever do that....dream about, say your 3rd grade teacher for no real reason. Then you wake up..."What was that about?!?! I ahven't thought of her in YEARS". Well, you probably saw something that day or smelled something or heard something that trigggered a subconscious memory.

If you have cheese before you sleep it is beleived you will have nightmares. I tend to dream about either something that has happened in the day that has some significance or whatever i have been thinking about before i go to sleep

Things that i am either looking forward to, or fear normally effect my dreams, If i am worried about something it often leads to a mini nightmare and then wakes me up.

Seems to happen all the time these days !

The subconscious. Usually, if I'am thinking about something, then I will have a dream related to that thought(s).
