playin a song well doesn make u good. u could practice for hours on a hard song and be able to play it perfectly but u might suck at everything else. i would say u have to.....

play a bunch of songs well, mostly the classics, doesnt have to be hard, but not too easy. while learning the songs, u should learn some techiniques good guitarists can do... these r the techniques and what songs show have examples of them:

    1. be able to do simple shredding(Lynyrd Skynyrd's Free Bird, only do the simple stuff, sounds harder than it actually is)

    2. change chords fluently and fast (ACDC, black sabbath, green day...also, the song Touch Me by the doors is good practice for chords, it has the most chord changes!)

    3. know how to do different bends: halfstep bends, whole step bends, unison bends, etc. (basically any solo will have bends, also, the end of Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven, there are some unison bends)

    4. be able to do simple tapping (eruption by van halen, but only the basic stuff in it, the solo is too hard even for many good guitarists)

    5. simple sweep picking (many heavy metal band's solos have sweep picking, DragonForce uses a lot of this in their solos)

    6. be able to solo and improvise (any song's solo is fine, once ur good at soloing other ppl's solos, improvise, most or all jazz musicians improvise their solos)

    7. know ALL the guitar/rock terminology (vocab, the different styles, techniques, famous guitarists, different guitars, famous bands, famous songs, etc) (just slowly learn it, no way to easily learn)

    8. play one handed, using pull offs and hammer ons(best song to learn this - AC/DC's thunderstruck)

    9. be decent at finger picking(eric clapton's tears in heaven, led zeppelin's stairway to heaven)

    10. be good at acoustic as well as electric (just get an acoustic guitar)

thats basically it, but remember, u dont need to prove ur good if YOU ARE good.

Play the lead guitar on Grand Funk Railroad's "Inside Looking Out", the lead guitar on Deep Purple's "Black Night", Black Sabbath's "A Bit of Finger/Sleeping Village/Warning, all the guitars in the Eagles' "Life in the Fast Lane", lead guitar on Ted Nugent's "Dog Eat Dog", lead guitar on Bob Seger's "Fire Down Below", lead on Aerosmith's "The Other SIde", and all guitars on AC/DC's "Money Talks", "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" and "You Shook Me All Night Long", do Clapton on "Sunshine of your Love", "White Room", and "Layla".

    Do that, and you pass.

Eric Clapton is a good act to follow. I would guess that you are pretty good already if you are confident enough to ask this question.
