On the 250 planets we've found so far, do you think we'll find that life exists out there soon?
Do you think governments would keep the secret?
heheh thanks alwaysmoose!

We would have to send a probe to be sure we have found life and at current propulsion speeds they would take an enormously long time to get to even the nearest stars:
60,000 years to the nearest star Proxima Centauri
150,000 years to the nearest star with a planet, Epsilon Eridani
300,000 years to the nearest star with a planet thought to be habitable, Gliese 581c*
If it is quick results you want, then landings on Mars and Jupiter's moon, Europa within the next 20-40 years may find life a lot sooner than exoplanets will ever yield up their secrets.
Europa would involve drilling beneath the ice crust to the underground lakes to see if there is marine life there, similar to that in earth's oceans, So that would mean transporting drilling equipment there for that purpose. Not an easy engineering feat to accomplish.
Links below are to a news story about Gliese 581 and to details of what we know about this system.
(*Gliese 581c is not a random bunch of letters and numbers at all but a systematic IAU naming convention)

Do the maths dude.....there are more stars visible to the nake eye at night than all the grains of sand on all the beaches of the world.
Plus all the other galaxies out there.
Even if life is a 1 in a Billion chance, then well, chances are there are heaps of life out there.
On the other hand, the proof against intelligent life goes like this. We are a second generation planet, we went from clubbing wild boars to space flight in what, 70,000 years.
So, we haven't the aliens come to visit us.
Governments don't necessarily have the power to keep information about life on other planets secret. If one person finds out the answer, then other people will find out the same thing sooner or later. However historically something like this did happen. When the great Chinese navigator , 500 years ago travelled much of the world and returned home with knowledge of discoveries, all his ships were burnt, the records destroyed and I think he was imprisoned.
While columbus returned home with gold and the rush was on.

Yes. Especially the newest one. It doesn't have a name yet, just a bunch of random letters and numbers. They said it had an atmosphere's just like Earth's and there might be traces of water. They are trying to reach the planet for further information.
Honestly though, there is no way that we can be the only planet in the endless universe that has life. Again, the universe is endless, there is a possiblity that there is another planet with life.

Not anytime soon! due to vast distances and technological limitations.

All planets have life on them, its just a matter of vibration that they are in that make them vi sable or not.Man bearing globes are just teeming every where but are sometimes in etheric matter which makes them seem invisible There are also beings of light that are in the sun and are more highly evolved than we are. All life forms are in the stage of becoming Man ,are man , or will someday become man. When the world teacher comes he will make this known to humanity. We are not alone in the universe and never have been. This may be a hard one to accept but there are members working in the United Nations that are from other planets and are working with the energy of good will in our world.

Scientists have already found an earth like planet where there are possibilities for existence of life

No. On spiritual grounds I don't believe that there is or can be any other form of life (angels, etc. excluded) anywhere in the universe. I don't believe it will ever be found no matter how many planets are discovered.

We would have to be pretty arrogant to believe we are the only intelligent lifeform, so yes, I believe there is life out there somewhere and it wouldn't surprise me if governments suppressed discovery of living creatures when they are found out there, Governments think they are the only intelligent adults in the World and that we would all freak out if life was found elsewhere.

Good question, and if we keep sending out radio waves long enough, maybe an advanced flesh eating hungry space ship society will land and stock up on fresh humans on their way to another galaxy. Kind of like turning on the porch light and leaving the front door wide open.

It's pretty ignorant to think that this planet is the only on in the entire universe that has life on it.
