polymer question?

please answer this as soon as posible. i need it by tonight. Prove or derive the equation below.

    The first answerer means well, but he has no clue as to what you are asking. This equation is related to Carother's equation, which relates degree of polymerization of a step growth polymer like a polyester to the conversion of the functional groups. This particular equation is gives the weight average degree of polymerization as a function of conversion. This derivation is pretty long and complicated; however, T. Lodge of the U. of Minnesota has published a free online book on this subject. See the URL below; what you want is on pages 29 - 33 or so.     So dy/dp = (1-p -(-(p-1))/ (1-p)^2 = 2/(1-p)^2
