Can I use a bit torrent client like utorrent in a network where you use a to access the internet through a proxy server? Is there anyway I can do this without having a dedicated port forwarded?

yes u can...
go to
options--> preferences-->connection--->enable proxy there ...
generally many are http servers....if any psswd reqd then type there.. u hav to use port number .. its mandatory..
