The company I manage is closing due to aging owner.?

We are in the wood products industry, and its a dying market due to cheap imports. I have a son that doesn't live with me and I don't want to move away from him to be a manager at a different company out of state. I've worked here 12 years and worked my way up from a laborer,I don't have a college degree but I have a lot of expereance in the bussiness, any advise would be great. My hope is to get a similar job close to home at the same pay. Has anyone gone through this?

Update:

I am the general manager/plant manager. I've let go of our scheduler and have been doing that as well. I also speak spanish fluently. My son is 10 yrs old, why would I be worried about leaving an adult son behind? I asked for help not dumb responses.

    So sorry.

First of all, get your resume in order and get it out there - HotJobs.com, Monster.com, etc.

Next, realize that you might have to take a slightly different job if you don't want to move. Play up your management experience. The last time I was in the market for a job (about 6 months ago) people were crazy for my management experience!

Do you happen to speak any other languages? It might be worth it to learn one (such as Spanish). This will also help you get a high paying job.

    Good luck! :)

A lot of jobs I've applied to have asked for either college degrees WITH experience, or several years experience. But the economy is still stagnant, struggling at a snail's pace because of so many mortgage foreclosures, and I've seen people with senior level expertise swallow their pride and take lesser paying jobs just to pay the bills. I've also talked to people who never thought they'd get laid off because of their high positions and salaries. It's a complicated job market out there with not very good prospects.

With all your experience, why would you want to go work for someone else anyway? Don't pack up and move UNTIL you've already signed a contract that says you are hired. Trust me, I've seen people move across the counry only to find they've been downsized before they set foot in office.

If I was in your shoes, I'd offer to buy the company (see if you can get it cheap than going price if you're on good terms with owner), get an SBA approved loan and turn the plant into something else, paper-related to match your knowledge. Like, maybe a recycling facility, or manufacturer of cardboard displays, CNC laser-cutting, or cardboard tradeshow displays or something. Time to be the Boss!

There has to be a similar or related job near your home that will meet your needs. You need to find many new companies to target. Ask your friends and colleagues who they know and start networking yourself around town.

Use this as an opportunity to get out of that industry and onto better career prospects. Check out your chamber of commerce's membership directory and find some companies you never knew existed. Get a great resume together and get it out everywhere.

    Good luck!

Huskys like to run. Don't ever allow them to off of a leash when you consider that they are going to run and overlook easy methods to get again to you. Aside from that, they're a first-class breed. They are very loving. Any time you've equal intercourse combos of puppies, there might be a wrestle for who is the dominating male, extra so than in an reverse intercourse blend. But it additionally will depend on the character of the puppies. Sometimes they are able to be submissive and now not battle for dominance. You cannot investigate how the personalities gets alongside till they're in combination. I might cross with one among each and every. Siberians are percent animals and they're going to uncover their order within the percent whether or not it is among puppy & individuals or puppy & puppy. My possess Siberian is a brown & white one. By the best way, they're rather terrified of water like swimming swimming pools and so forth. I bet it is the breeding that makes them terrified of falling via the ice.

You don't say what is your position or job description, which would be the most important information for a resume. Further, how old is your son? If you have built skills that apply to a job you would like, and your son is a normal adult (e.g., self-sufficient), then your dependence shows you are surely not qualified for a superior position in any employment.

Can you take the company over yourself and lower costs by using your experience? Maybe cut out some of the higher paid workers and do the jobs yourself?

Ask the current owner if you can assume the machinery, the rent etc...
