Egypt and the Cold War?
What was Egypt's role in the Cold War? I have write an essay for history due Thursday (ahhhhh!), so any information you have or websites that actually pertain this subject would be fantastic!!!!
(All the websites I find are about France's role, or the revolution in Egypt, never the cold war!!)

Here you go....
To sum it up, the US were courting Egypt especially in Nasser's era as he realised that the Americans were a better bet than the Russians. Also there were a little bit of Middle East dynamics going on... nasty business....
More following your questions...
I was previously doing some research on the Cold War but more towards
the Israeli and Middle East perspectives in the context of the Lebanon
Wars... But damn it, I lost all my materials.... Egypt is essentially
strategic in the Cold War because of the Suez Canal and oil supply
routes.... Nasser made a critical decision then as PM of Egypt to go side
with the Americans... I have attached some more links related to this.
You should try to home in on the Suez Canal crisis. I think that is
the real turning point.
