liver test?? help?

Just got liver tests back as in blood tests and two things were elevated from previous tests the FLT and the ALT one of them was 12 now is 48 the other was about 12 now is 35 or something not definite on those readings. Any way have just been sick with either a bad virus or food poisoning. Used to be heavy drinker and pot smoker, popped pain killers for a while and now am on methadone and valium, serapax, xanax and restoril for anxiety and sleep disorders.

Am a bit paranoid that im going to die or something, the doctor wasnt too worried and said we'll redo the test in a month and see how it goes. Does this mean my liver is just under stress cause i was sick and now on lots of medications?

someone help me am worried about this as i suffer from anxiety already and have a fear of death and over react to things.

Here is what you need :

    Ultrasound of liver

    Hepatitis Testing

Avoid anything that would damage liver e.g Tylenol , Alcohol

None of the drugs that you are on damage the liver significantly . Surprisingly you are taking 4 Benzos i.e Valium,Xanax,Serapax and Restoril . With mehtadone use only two benzos i.e Restoril for night and Xanax for the day .Add an SSRI e.g Zoloft for anxiety , also add Thiamine, Folic Acid , and Multivitamin .

If your Ultrasound would show chronic liver changes than you might need a liver biopsy . If you are HepC/B possitive it would need to be treated aswell . An Hiv test should also be conducted .

Excercise regularly . Help people who are trying to recover from drugs.

No blood test is 100% accurate. They may

take more tests to be sure of this level.

Everyone has blood tests levels that go up and

down all the time...the chemistry inside the

body is changing constantly. If you have a

virus, your body may have some inflammation

inside trying to fight this off and cause a

change in the blood levels also in the process.

A well known virus, hepatitis, causes inflammation of the liver cells. Why? because

the immune system responds to the virus

to try and fight it off and the body puts up

a defense to try to wall in the virus, causing

    this inflammation. Too much inflammation,

though.. can cause damage, so the doctors

give medication to control it and lessen it

before it can do an organ harm. If it isn't

lessen, it can lead to death of the liver cells,

Known as cirrhrosis. Once the cells die,

they form scar tissue inside the liver and

cut off nourishment and oxygen to the other

healthy cells and they die also...till it consumes

    the whole liver.

The best thing a person can do is not to

overdose on anything at all: drugs, alcohol,

food, etc. Alcohol, in excess, puts a strain on

the liver to handle it and it goes out into the

blood and to the brain to make a person

appear drunk. The problem is that the alcohol

cannot be processed properly, can turn into

a toxin that causes the liver harm.

Alcohol and tylenol is like a suicide attempt.

Taken together, it can cause complete liver

failure. Overdosing on a drug, like tylenol and

many others, can cause irreversible liver damage.

Drugs are like a two edge sword, they help you

one way and can harm you another. If you are

on medication...you can read about them here:

    http://www.drugs.com/

You should of also received an insert or paper

when the drug was filled to read.

The doctors have to weigh the benefits of a

drugs with the harm it may do and then decide

if this drug is okay for a patient. All drugs have

side effects, interactions, and does many things

to the body. It is best to only take medication

prescribed by the doctor and take it in the way

the doctor wrote the instructions and get in

touch with him right away about any adverse

side effects or symptoms you are having.

He knows your medical history, what other

drugs you are on, and what your tests show.

He is the best one to tell you what is right for

you. If he doesn't have your complete trust,

get a second opinion...it never hurts since

doctors are human also and can make mistakes.

I would talk to the doctor and see if there are

any medication that you may not have to take

for your condition. Most drugs are processed

through the liver and the less it has to process

the better. We ask our doctor to evaluate

whether we are able to be without the drug

and how we are to proceed to go off the drug.

Some drugs are very harmful if you go off them

cold turkey...he knows which ones they are,

so he may decrease the amount until your

body adapts to being without them.

Waiting for test results is a killer...it is like

waiting to find out if you have some sort of

disease or not. But, really, if you think about

it....your chemistry will totally change then and

give the doctor a better look at what may be

causing your problem. To take another test

right away may give the exact same results and

    not show him much.

If you want to learn more about what a lab

result means...here is a site to type in the

name of the lab test, Like ALT and learn

    about it. www.labtestsonline.com
