Its not really a matter of if Acer makes a quality computer. It looks like you are not aware of what is needed in a computer and therefore have not purchased the proper computer for your needs. You need a more powerful computer from Acer. While I can't quite say Acer is the best, they do build a quality product and I have known many a happy acer computer owner. What are the specs on your 2000-2002 laptop? And What are you trying to do on this laptop? Maybe I can further help you if I knew this information.

There is no such thing as a best computer.

The BEST only exists in the computer owner's mind. Everyone has the best computer if it works, if it doesn't then they have the worst one.

After repairing computers for quite a few years, I have heard it over and over again, "I bought the best, why am I having all these problems?"

Ask 50 computer owners, and most will think this, or that brand is the best, brands seem to make very little difference when it comes to problems. Also, the price makes the computer look nicer, but believe me it does not make a better computer, usually faster, but they too have cheap components and their share of problems.

A fancy, flashy case will sell a computer better than the internal components. The case has just about nothing to do with how a computer operates, other than cooling, but it is the part you see, if it looks nice to you, you will probably buy it.

I agree with Kyle.

Acer is one of the worse (along side Dell). It only looks good, but lacks under the hood quality and performance parts. The best built laptops are those made by Apple and IBM/Lenovo. The Lenovo tops my list as it is more rugged and offers more features with a the longest lasting battery of any laptop (8.5 hours on the X60s)

I had an Acer in 2000, and found it to be quite a good computer, did everything that I wanted.

It had an AMD 333Mhz processor and 32 megs (!) of RAM. They ever called me and asked for suggestions, and I advised them to double the ram.

build your own, looks for a computer fair near you, you will make a killing in savings, you'll have a machine htat's half the price to a top price branded machine that's also faster with larger drivespace etc, as well you wont have a problem with them as you have done this yourself, Personally go on the internet as there are many pages on there on PC DIY and how to save money with them,. bont be blinded with buying a brand as 99% of the time the computers are overpriced and underpowerd with low speed hard drives as well as memory. luling you to thinking that you have agood deal where as closer inspection you have something that will need upgrading within a year

When I bought last year, I was advised by a repair shop not to buy Acer, as they had a high "return to base" record. I was advised to buy Asus. But they were much more expensive.
