UK Smoking Ban and Littering?!?

Two friends of mine were both fined £70 for littering when they chucked thier Cigarette ends on the ground!! I was wondering if this is happening all over the UK or just around Devon? The Police never cared about this before, and I'd imagine that when the ban comes in on the 1st of July, they're going to be making some serious cash out of this!!! What's your opinion of this?

Thank you xxx

Why do you think these new laws are being initiated? It is not about health and the environment, it is all about finding more ways to make money!

As a smoker, i in my opinion have not got a situation with this so stated as ban.although you are able to argue in this rely till at last the cows come homestead. What I merchandise to became into the way it became into presented, without giving an excellent majority of agencies the possibility to place their homestead so as and the place a danger cater for the two non human beings who smoke and human beings who smoke. there are various working mens golf equipment and comparable institutions, who ought to after consultation with its contributors come to a call no rely if to introduce the ban or not. thus no person became into given the possibility it became into desperate by applying the well being experts who're now targetting alcohol, candies, weight problems, and god is familiar with, what those so stated as well being experts will think of of next. How some human beings have survide in any respect is a secret.

Chewing gum, fast food containers, sweet wrappers, crisp packets, dog turds, dog urine, tin cans -beer, lager and soft drinks. Yoghurt cups - healthy litterers!? All found on the street where I live, a place that is no inner city - it is a leafy street.

Vomit - quite frequent on Friday nights/Saturday mornings.

Fine the lot, heavily. I can put up with *** ends, but dog pee transfers to my shoes and gets tramped into my house. I have a corner shop 2 doors from my house and dog owners simply tie their beasts to the stanchions provided by the shop and allow them to piss all over the place.

I've told you before on this site that smokers are the current scapegoats. Come the smoking ban, whose freedom will be next to be removed? One hell of a lousy precedent has been set here, and we will all reap the rotten results.

Since littering is an offence, and your friends committed an offence, then there is there not full justification for the fine? I would have thought that they ought to have been offered the opportunity to pick up their cigarette butt and put it into a bin rather than going straight for a fine, though.

Dropping cigarette butts is no different in my opinion to dropping other forms of litter. I have been known to throw them back in through car windows at traffic lights...

Manchester is famous for the Street Crime Wardens who have fined members of the public for littering or for putting cigarettes out in NO SMOKING ZONES.

  • Oh my God! There isn't a law about littering! I don't like littering, but it's ridiculous they were fined when they did nothing legally wrong! But then again, the other day a guy got fined for swearing. Wierd.

As for the smoking ban, i can see how it will be frustrating for smokers, but it would be beneficial to a majority of the public. I don't really have a strong opinion on that.

It's happening everywhere and about blo0dy time too. Smokers deposit millions of tons of the stinking cancer butts on the ground every year. No-one else is allowed to discard their rubbish on the street so why should ashtray-gob smokers get away with it?

PS For numpty brains above, it IS against the law to litter. That INCLUDES cigarette ends.

Well I know this has happened in a town close to me BEFORE our ban came into force on April 2nd.

What is the difference between throwing rubbish on the floor or throwing a ciggie butt on the floor.

    It is still littering.

The smoking ban is another liberty taken.... Surely the choice should be yours as long as you respect the people around you. More people will be smoking and drinking at home which in its self will create health problems for yourself and your family.

The next move will be the Pint. You will have health warnings printed on the glass you buy your beer in saying "Beer could seriously get you drunk and lead to you battering your wife".

  • there has been a littering ban in scotland for years. serves their right, shouldn't smoke or litter. both disgusting habbits.xxx
