So why isn't THIS headline news????

In Darfur a woman has been kidnapped and tortured - as part of her torture whe was forced to hang her own child.

Isn't this just as hideous as the current headlines if not worse?

(Don't get me wrong - I am disgusted by what has happened in Portugal and I hope to God that Madeleine McCann is found safe and well .)

Update:

I am not saying that Madeleine's disappearance should not be headline news, I am saying that this should also be headline.

For the same reasons that the crimes against Native American Indians are not in the history books....if the victims are not white, genocide is quite alright. The world needs to learn to relate to each other as human beings and not "them" and "us" as if race makes some superior/inferior. The Darfur incident,(one of many),Should be headline news. It is atrocious!

I agree with Mimi...it's because Maeleine came from a middle class, white, well off family, and for some reason people seem to care more about those people than the literally millions of others who get tortured, kidnapped, and murdered every day elsewhere.

Darfur HAS been headline news for at least 2 years. The tv show ER even had a couple of episodes extolling the crimes there.Several Hollywood celebrities have come out against Darfur, the sad truth is things like this happen around the world every day.As long as countries have no strong military to protect their citizens,- dictators and despots will fill the lawless vacuum and impose their will. ie(Saddam).

That's our news values - unfortunately a black woman in an African country with no oil just doesn't count. It is disgusting! As George W claimed to be concerned about the welfare of women in Afghanistan under the Taliban you would think he would be sending in his troops.

Ah, but was she British? you see, here in good old Blighty, we like to "LOOK AFTER OUR OWN", even if it means we're offering tea and sympathy to parents whose priorities are lobster for dinner, going out on the lash every evening, socialising with friends, etc., above the safety of their babies
