When the bible says "that the old is gone", is that a refence to the 10 commandments being removed?

"Therefore if any man [be] in Christ, [he is] a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."

This means that when a person accepts Christ as their Lord and Savior, He comes into their heart and changes their very personality. People who used to be mean, immoral, impure, drunkards, drug addicts, etc. now become clean and sober, morally pure, better character, etc.

Christ did this for me. I used to be an atheist and evolutionist for 20 years; I was sexually immoral and vulgar. I used to be pro-choice. After I was saved, I became not only a Christian but a young-Earth creationist, pro-life, married and chaste. I did a complete 180, and that was not of my own efforts. Only God can accomplish that in a person's life. The "old man" [person] dies, and a "new man" takes his place. The "old me" is dead, and she's not coming back.

To be sure, there are some people who claim to be Christian who have yet to let go of worldly behaviors and addictions; they have not yet allowed Christ to take over their lives. Unfortunately, these are the people who give Christianity a black eye, because other people see their behavior, and decide that Christianity isn't for them, and are thus lost. My advice for those people is, if you're not ready to live a Christian life, don't tell people that you're Christian.

You know what cracks me up? There was a huge controversy over this where I live- Alabama. And we had people saying, "Oh noes!!!!11 They're trying to take God away from the childrenz!!!" And for the people who say kids can't pray in school, you're wrong. They can pray all they want. They can't have a school led prayer or force other students to participate however. But if you're a student and you feel like praying, you can. So stop with that foolish argument. I was a student in an Alabama public school, and I absolutely resented having religion shoved down my throat even more so. It seems like the adults cared a lot more than any of the students. The adults didn't care about the students not having God, they cared about spreading their religion. It doesn't matter who needs the commandments. If they're in court, they clearly don't care in the first place. On top of that, why would you say that our country was based off of Christian teachings? Because there's a parallel between SOME of the commandments and laws? You do realize that most religions have similar laws. Ex. No killing, no stealing. Not to mention having the Ten Commandments in the public place violates the first amendment...You know, it separates church and state. But I guess that's not important. It's only the First Amendment. By the way, let's have a look at the Ten Commandments: 1. Tells you not to worship any other gods. This imposes religion on others, yet again. And I thought we had freedom of religion in America? So why hang something like this in a public place of law as if it has influence in the law? 2. Do not make any idols...Yet again, why would this need to be in a place of law? I believe we have the right to idolize whoever and whatever we want. 3. Do not misuse the name of God. Well, Goddamn, I thought we had freedom of speech too. 4. Keep the Sabbath holy...Does not belong in a place of law. Also, I guess anyone who works on Sunday is going to Hell. 5. Honor your mother and father...Yes, how appropriate for those going through legal disputes with their relatives. Someone's dad abused them and they're in court and here this thing is telling them to honor their father. Nice. 10. Do not covet...So if you simply desire to possess something, you are sinning. Silly this should be in a public courthouse. It has nothing to do with law. They wouldn't put you in jail because you covet something, so why does this need to be in a courthouse? By the way, rights from the Creator does not necessarily mean the Christian God, nor does Nature's God. No part of the Constituion just out right says "God" or any true Christian reference. In my Bible it says "old things are passed away". To understand this, more needs to be found.

Jesus said that He came to "fulfill" the law. Some have misunderstood this to mean eliminate or destroy.

The entire law of Moses was a lesser law with many images, allegories, and metaphors referring to Jesus Christ and the sacrifice of His life that would come later. When He came to earth, He fulfilled the prophecies, and brought a higher law. When there were new commandments that were different from the previous commandments, the new stood. But it did not eliminate the old commandments that were not replaced, for instance, the 10 commandments.

NO! It means that the old (sin loving and desiring nature is replaced) for the new (a life that loves and wants to glorify God and feels conviction when sin comes in). The New testament replaces the old but the 10 commandments are still to be adhered to. The New testament teaches salvation through faith in Christ alone while while the old testament was mainly based on works. Jesus Christ is the only way.

NO! NO! NO!... LOL...In order to understand what Paul was talking about there you really need to understand what the Jewish religion taught about salvation by keeping the works of the Law. The law was much more than the 10 commandments. It also contained dietary laws,purification, worship, and other rituals that had to be observed. The Jews taught that strict observance of the Law was required to be saved and justified in the eyes of God. The Jews believed that apart from keeping the law given through Moses, there was no other way of salvation. In that system it was a never ending struggle until death to continually keep the law. In that system you could never be good enough and must continually try harder to be more holy. Through the grace of Jesus Christ we don't have to worry about not being able to keep the commandments of God. The laws or like you say "10 commandments" are still important but through Christ we don't have to worry about being perfect and constantly trying to observe these laws.

No, in this reference it is referring to the "old creature" or old spirituality. This scripture tells how when a person accepts Christ as their savior, they become "new" in spirit. The old, unsaved spirit is gone, the new cleansed, saved spirit is born.

At no time is there anything in the Bible about the 10 commandments being eradicated. They are in fact the basis for our laws - all over the world.

Jesus told all of the disciples to follow Gods Commandments. They are indisputable in "Truth" today as they were held in "Truth" from the time of Moses.

The past is dead, the future in non-existent, and the only time is now. This is what Jesus was trying to teach the disciples.

They must live in the here and now even when he departed them, and they were not to dwell on the things of the past. Jesus was telling them to go forward. As when he said to them, "Follow Me".

The Old Testament contains the Book of Psalms, and The Proverbs. Are these to be thrown aside or discarded as well as the dictates given by God as to what food was acceptable and what food was unacceptable?

God did not change any of these laws.

Use the Wisdom that God gave you as a blessing, and follow

Gods Truth that lies within your heart. Jesus did say that God dwells within you, Trust his word................

The old is gone means the old desires, lusts, cravings for sin, etc. Paul in other places talks about the old self. Read specifically Ephesians 4:22

"to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires,"

Also Jesus talked about this process in John 3, describing it as being "born again".

That is what the "old" is referring to. As for the commandments, it is also true that we are "dead" to the law. Romans 7 deals with this more in depth.

v. 4 Likewise, my brothers, you also have died to the law through the body of Christ, so that you may belong to another, to him who has been raised from the dead, in order that we may bear fruit for God.

5 For while we were living in the flesh, our sinful passions, aroused by the law, were at work in our members to bear fruit for death.

6 But now we are released from the law, having died to that which held us captive, so that we serve not under the old written code but in the new life of the Spirit.

You should read all of Romans 7 to understand it more fully. We are dead to the law, so if we do sin, it is forgiven already, however by being renewed in Christ, we now desire to obey and keep the law.

So at ALL times it is good to keep the law, and at ALL times it is wrong to break God's law. Finally 1 John 3:8 also makes it abundantly clear "Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil..."

Jesus said that he would not change the law of moses but he would just add meaning to it. I see most people in hear are trying to make the word adapt to fit their lives rather than adapting you life to the word. Nothing as changed(Well in the bible) The world has changed though. That doesn't mean you must change for the world. It sounds like people are saying that the bible evolved. My questions is to what? I think that the hypocrites and the people who have a problem following rules and what they are told to do will have the most distorted answer to this question.

No- The old is you and your previous life. You are to consider yourself dead and alive to Christ. Repent of your sins, seek the Kingdom of God and live as a righteous person for starters. Then learn about God and His Word so you can teach others and make disciples. Stay away from people that would tell you otherwise-no matter what church they attend. Become a new creation.
