Mountain Climbers - Why do they do it?

I just heard on TV something about climbers getting lost on Mt. Hood? Why do they climb in the snow and bad weather? I did research online and some have been lost since last winter and presumed dead.

many people who climb these pacific NW peaks aspire to climb even greater peaks and one way to train is to do a lesser peak in bad weather to simulate what you might encounter on other more difficult climbs, I did this often when I was younger and thought that someday I might want to go to everest. things can and do go wrong when you climb, being able to deal with storms or falls are part of climbing, and to be good at anything you have to push yourself.

They got in over their heads. At some point, they made a bad choice, and in the mountains bad choices can be fatal. Sometimes, the hardest part of climbing is knowing when to back off a route. Some routes are committing and cannot be easily backed off, in which case you need to be REALLY sure!

a solid question - the terrific thank you to answer it - because of the fact it quite is agreeable. because of the fact what we get out of it may't be measured bought or bought with funds. "in case you are able to no longer comprehend that there is something in guy which responds to the project of this mountain and is going out to fulfill it, that the warfare is the warfare of existence itself upward and continually upward, then you definately won't see why we pass. What we get from this journey is sheer excitement." -George Leigh Mallory "because of the fact it quite is there" -Sir Edmund Hillary We climbers and mountaineers comprehend the hazards in contact with hiking, yet we savor it. We comprehend that there is a solid hazard that we ought to be killed jointly as hiking yet think of that the risk is very well worth the advantages.

Go climbing with an experienced, and safe, climber, and you will see why.

It's safer than driving a car if you know what you are doing.
