Why are female pets Neutered and Male pets Fixed?

    The correct terms are "spayed" for females and "neutered' for males....unless you are talking about a horse. Then the term becomes not "neutered', but "gelded" or "castrated". Does this clear up your confusion? "Fixed" is a generic term that is used to describe surgery to sterilize any animal of either gender.

    "Fixed" is a generic term used when you don't know the sex of the animal in question. Spay is the correct term for female animals and neuter is the correct term for male animals.
