basically its to let you know if the polish is drying out or not, depending on how fast the ball is moving through the bottle when shaken, from one extreme to another, if the ball is moving pretty fast when shaken then its good, but if you dont hear it at all then the polish is dried out.

Because sometimes overtime if you leave a bottle of nail polish out you can see the color start to separate, but if you shake it the ball help mixes the color up so you can use it again. I don't think I've ever had a bottle of nail polish without the ball haha I've always been temped to take it out.

When you shake nail polish, the metal ball helps swirl it around and keep the color evenly distributed.

To mix it up. Do they still put those in polish? I can't remember the last time I had a bottle with one...

because if you leave the bottle of nail-pollish by itself for a while it will become dried up and seperated so the ball is used to mix it up . plus i think it also keeps the liquid from just spilling out of the top of the bottle .
hope this helps

when you shake it, the ball helps mix the polish around because it will be thick if you dont and the color will "seperate"

actually its neither of the other answers, the small spheres in the nailpolish are kept in there for mixing as well as they are made of a metal like lead to keep the nailpolish from going bad.
