California Exempt Employees - New minimum wage increases their base salary?

I have a friend making a shade over 27k a year as in an exempt administrative position. I just heard that by law she should be making two times minimum wage, which here in CA is 7.50/hr. So her salary should be $31,200? Her boss told her that the base salary requirments only apply to new employees. I told her that was bunk and that he is shorting her and when wages go up again in January that her new salary should be $33,280 (based upon the 8.00/hr minimum wage)? Who is right me or her boss?

You are. This is one of the biggest issues that have been going on since last year in fact. Employer's making up there own laws or modifying the language of whatever law to suit their needs. There is no such thing if the law goes into effect today it does not apply to previous employees. Not under FLSA standards/laws.

the business organisation advance into Starkist, out of yankee Samoa, there have been some different rules governing the minimum salary via life there being a lot extra low-priced. via the hot minimum salary could have been better than something on the island paid. Thats basically 0.5 the tale however, it form of feels Pelosi did no longer upload something to the modification, Samoas exemption from the minimum salary advance into in place for 12 years in the past, even in the time of Republican administrations. The hyperlink under tells the two sides of a no longer too surprisingly tale. yet is barely peripherally in touch with Pelosi

You are correct, the boss is not informed correctly. The minimum wage requirement does not have a "grandfather clause" on it. (Saying that only new hires get the higher wage)
