Outdoor ferrets?
i have a ferret but my mother doesnt want it indoors, but we have a barn, that is right near my house, and is heated during the winter and cool during the summer. do you think this would be ok or should i just fight my mom and get permission for it to live indoors ?
my mom just doesnt like small pets, but im absolutely in love with him :)
ok. my barn is less that 50 feet from my house. and i go out there whenever possible and he gets a TON of attention, and the barn doesnt get over 80 degrees, and if it does, i have a fan to turn on. and hes in a cage. so i hope that i meet standards. lol. thanks for the input
and he was sort of a gift, but he was purchased from a guy that didnt want him anymore . and hes only here on the weekends, its very crazy :)

Maybe y'all should have had this discussion *before* you got the ferret.
Ferrets don't do well in temperatures over 80 degrees (they are very sensitive to heat and will get heat stroke in a minute) so if your barn gets anywhere near that, keep them in your house, or find him a new home.
Also, ferrets are very social animals and it is recommended to have their cage somewhere they'll get to see you often. Not to mention they need out-of-cage time every day for at least 3 hours. Are you going to trek out to the barn and bring them in your house a few times a day? Or when it's too cold, or too hot, or raining are you going to forget about it?
Ferrets are really meant to be inside animals. I wouldn't recommend keeping him in your barn.

Ferrets are not meant to be kept outside away from you, espically if you only have one. It really should be inside where it can socialize with it. There is a very good chance that the ferret would become depressed out in the barn alone. Also it would be much easier for the ferret to escape (they're diggers) and a much higher risk of diseases.

No. i would not put him in the barn, They are very social animals and and need to be around humans, My baby ferret is alway wanting me to play with him, because my other ferret is old and sleeps alot. They really seem to have a need to interact with humans.

well if you already have the ferret and your mom just all of a sudden decided that she didn't want it in the house...why??
is it the smell....clean it more
is it getting into something.....watch it better
basically find out the problem and go from there...

we had two and kept them outside, as long as it doesn't get to hot or cold and you don't forget them, they need the companionship
