In Europe( switzerland ) , is it considered appropriate for pediatricians to enter the room during feed?
Hi ... this might sound strange but I am mother to a newborn and currently living in switzerland . Recently on my visit along with my husband to the pediatrician( male) for my childs shots, my baby created a fuss and I was asked to feed him as he might be hungry . The doc left us in his private room for me to feed the baby . however after 5 mins he re - entered the room without any knocking . I felt very awkward and had to cover up myself quickly. my husband felt strange too which he told me later on the way out. I come from a slightly conservative nation but am sure that am not a narrow minded individual . so I dnt want to have a wrong opinion of the doc incase it is considered totally normal in this country ??
PS: I dnt have an issue with a male gynaecologist .

It seems like in the USA there is more of a stigma about nursing mothers. We are encouraged to breastfeed and sneered at if we decide to use formula instead, but when we are out in public we are made self conscious and uncomfortable about doing one of the most natural things a woman can do besides giving birth. Europeans seem to be more relaxed about these things. I saw an Oprah show where a mom from the Netherlands said that she felt so comfortable nursing her kids in public b/c everybody does it and it doesn't matter where they are. People don't care b/c they know that is the best thing for baby. I think she even said that there are coffee shops and such that cater to moms and their kids specifically.... wouldn't that be nice to have here in the states!!!!! Don't be upset with the doc... it's totally normal over there. Be glad you can do what is best for your baby w/o getting rude stares from other folks.

I don't think your the first mom he has seen nursing and it's funny b/c I never even cared when I was at the doctors LOL I just pulled a boob out and fed my kids. Then again I never really had a problem nursing in public and having living in Germany I was spoiled b/c I was never looked at crazy for feeding my baby in public. Then again after nursing 3 kids 1 for 19 months 1 for 18 months and the baby for 2 years and a month I could care less anymore. But again even as a new mom it didn't bother me in the doctors office.

All this crap about breast feeding and people being up tight
about it really really makes me sick. Who do people think the
breast is there for. Strangers being offended. What a bunch
of idiots. Oh! I know! Lets throw the little tyke in prison.
That will teach um to get hungry in public. Really now I think
this mindset is only found in America.
Good luck with the new addition.
