Cotto vs Mayweather?
After watching the Mayweather-De La Hoya fight, do you think Cotto has a chance?

Miguel Angel Cotto has more power than De La Hoya and Cotto is a relentless body puncher. Those body punches Hoya was throwing isn't close to what Cotto would throw and the power that comes with his body shots. If Mayweather leaves his body open he will get knocked out with a body shot. No matter what Mayweather throws at Cotto he wont hurt Cotto. Mayweather couldn't even hurt an old Hoya so he wont even tickle Cotto. Good fight to see.

If it's anything like the De La Hoya fight it will be a show, but Mayweather is going to take it. Do I think Cotto has a chance? Not really.

honestly straight forward dog! cotto doesn't even have a chance and he knows that so he would past on a mayweather fight. he probably would rather fight a delahoya instead more money and a bigger shot at winning. mayweather is just to fast and cotto honestly doesn't have the skills like delahoya. cotto is good and a fierce puncher however, cotto doesn't posses the power to knock mayweather out with one punch. and if he did mayweather would see it come from a mile away. mayweather is much stronger at 147 than 154. the gloves weight alot less. so if i was cotto i would dodge that fight for a couple of years tell i feel i am ready. he can loose gracefully to mayweather and still have a future. or he can get destroyed in the ring and loose fans and money
Source(s): ALL FIGHTERS RIGHT NOW FEAR MAYWEATHER BECAUSE OF HIS SLICK STYLE. YOU CANT CATCH HIM SO HOW CAN YOU BEAT HIM. THATS SOMETHING EVERY ONE AND ANY FIGHTER HAS TO TAKE IN CONSIDERATION. - Anonymous1 decade ago
I agree that Cotto is a better puncher at 147 than Oscar De La Hoya at 154. He is such a good bodypuncher you'd think he was Mexican! But the mistake people make is thinking a slick boxer can't have power. Look at what Mayweather did to good boxers like Corrales (RIP), Corley, Gatti, Baldmir, De La Hoya, Mitchell (who he knocked out with ONE shot). Mayweather can bang, he just prefers to outbox and outclass the competition. Thats not being a coward, thats being smart. Any trainer worth two cents will tell you to not take stupid chances at the risk of getting caught with a lucky punch. Many fighters in history that the fans love were face first fighters like Gatti and others like him who werent afraid to take 3 shots to land one. That isnt very smart and years later you can pay dearly for it. Floyd Mayweather Jr. would have his hands full for a few rounds but I think he is good enough to befuddle Cotto and win a boring 12 round decision. The fight that would bring down the house anywhere, place or time, is Hatton and Cotto. Bring it on!!!!!!!!!!!

That would be a great fight. .....I hope it happens
I think that Cotto will have a better chance than De la Hoya. Cotto is much stronger and quicker but at the end Floyd knows how to take your best stuff away, just look what he did to De La Hoya's right hook by far his best punch (only landed it once, in the 12th).

Cotto will no doubt be somewhat encouraged by the amount of times that Oscar got to the body. Must bode well for Cotto's own body attack.
Floyd has tried to get this fight in the past, but Cotto's camp has passed on it. Cotto is definately not the most dangerous fight for Floyd out there. Cotto's a stalking fighter who's easiliy hit. Floyd would dance around him, and outpoint him for the win. IMO, It wouldnt be too exciting. Floyd is definately not scared of Cotto. If Floyd were to fight at Welter again, I would like to see him with Williams, Margarito, or Cintron. Or possibly even Mosley, although I have a feeling Floyd may avoid that one.

Stylistically, no.
Cotto is a puncher, but not necessarily a swarmer type. If he had the relentlessness of Ricky Hatton, I could see Mayweather losing, but for the moment, Mayweather is just too slick for any pure punchers. The only people who can beat Mayweather are those who can take away his movement, and that is done only by pushing him up on the ropes, and playing a little rough.

Nope, and in that fight Mayweather would be about the same size if not bigger than Cotto.

it will be more competitive than the Oscar fight due to the fact that Cotto is a come forward fighter that will hit every part of the upper body (stomach, chest, arms shoulders, head) which ODLH didn't do. Mayweather will be favored but I think this fight is more appealing than a rematch with ODLH

i think cotto would have abit more stamina and power to keep mayweather busy for 12 rds so floyd would not get a chance to set up and fire his pattened 1 punch scamper and evade actual fighting technique. i would not pay for this fight though i will never again pay for a mayweather fight.
